HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET USED TO THEM? I FEEL LIKE A 2 WEEK NOOB!

Two weeks...

Seriously, the older you get (either physically or mentally), the longer it seems to take due to several reasons like sharing your time between game and life in differently sized proportions. As a rule of thumb, it takes about two weeks (really  :O) to learn to remember to use the pedals, then a couple of months for your nervous system to build new synapses. After that using them is deep coded into your brain.

That two weeks/three months timetable applies to any motoric skill. Actually, teaching oneself to do things in a new manner i.e. deliberately building new synapses helps fight against Alzheimer's and other memory diseases. That won't cure or prevent them, it's more like proactive rehabilitation. Also, learning alternative manners can increase your overall productivity and ways to handle dead end situations.  :old: :old: :old:

I was ramming EVERYTHING I attacked for about 3 months.

Now it's so much better I'll never go back.

It all depends on the person.  It didn't take me more than a week to get comfortable when I first switched to pedals after using a twisty stick.

It helps if you train yourself to use them instead of just flying in the MA. For example you could fly aerobatics and use your pedals to keep the ball centered.

My experience was much the same as this,  I played with a twisty stick for about 8 years and flying with pedals was extremely frustrating until after about 2 weeks and endless collisions etc it clicked. 

They came mighty close to going out the window but I wouldn't go back now, helps with shooting and energy retention with no accidental inputs creating drag.  To help try taxiing around on the ground as aggressively as you can and practice re-arming as quickly as possible by bleeding off E then taking off again.

2-4 weeks seems to be the case for most. Stick with them, you'll be happy you did.

when my 7 year old ubermodded cougar + tm elite rudder decided to die , i bought a warthog + saiteck pro rudder combo.
This was 2 - 3 months or so , and im still struggling to do some stuff i could do before.
My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

Dang seano, you've been playing a long time without them. I would of thought you had pedals years ago. It'll probably take you a bit longer then most to get use to as you've got several years of twisty stick habits to forget. But you should start feeling comfortable in a month or so I'd guess. It took me a week or two, but I only used a twisty stick for a few months before switching over.

:airplane: There are some exercise that you can do and one of the favorites that I found useful when training students in real aircraft is this: Start out rolling from straight and level to 30 degrees bank left, then immediately roll back to the right to a 30 degree bank angle, then back to level flight. Repeat that several times and you will see an improvement in your coordinating of aileron and rudder inputs. Observe your "needle and ball" indicator on your instrument panel to see if you are staying in coordinated flight. If your turn to the left shows the "ball" outside of the two vertical lines to the right, then you are skidding in the turn. A slight rudder pressure on the "ball" will correct this. "Stepping" on the ball is an old saying by a lot of instructors, if the ball is outside to the right, a little right rudder, if outside of the vertical lines to the left, a little left rudder. If you have a "ball" to the left, in a left turn, you are slipping in the turn. Both skidding and slipping in the turns will decay your airspeed prematurely, giving your opponent an advantage. One of the problems that you are going to have is with full power and slow speeds, such as climbing turns or chasing an opponent straight up. If you will notice the next time you get someone in a straight ahead climb, watch his vertical stab and you will notice that in American aircraft, his vertical stab will be slightly offset to the right of his line of flight. The reason? Not compensating for engine torque and "P" factor as he is climbing and slowing down. One of the problems with this computer generated game is the lack of feel! That's why you have instruments, to assist in the correct amount of control inputs to keep the aircraft in coordinated flight. One of the best "sticks" in this game is Pand and Greebo, both of whom know and understand the importance of coordinated flight when dog fighting an opponent. Observe what both do in dog fighting and you will always see that vertical stab in line with their selected line of flight.
 :bhead I have had the opposite problem, after a career in flying, 22,344 hrs total time, I always flew aircraft with rudder pedals! Then I came into this game about a 1 and 1/2 years ago and started having to fly with a "twisty" stick, a X-52 and I have struggled with it constantly, and have worn a pair of holes in the wall behind my cockpit setup. applying pressure with my feet because of years of flying with rudder pedals! So I have finally given up and ordered me a set of rudder pedals also, and will be glad when they get here. If you need any futher help, you are in my squad and will be glad to assist you in getting used to them with some training exercises.

My first set of CH peds were hard to get used to until I started using the right ped to point my nose left..... and left ped to point right. They didn't slide like my new ones but for some reason it felt more natural to use them that way.... plus the chair turned.

My brain just could not get used to pressing right and going right when my body pointed left so I had to invert the axis.

Best reason I could give might have something to do with the way I drive....................and or the way I used to twist the stick also back in 94-96. My whole body moved.

Try it...see if you can wrap your brain around ped - rudder movement then.
