IL-2 first flight in USA
« on: August 09, 2012, 09:25:17 PM »
From Chris Fahey today: Great news everyone! At about 2 pm today, Steve Hinton flew the Flying Heritage Collection's Il-2 for the first time. It's the first time a Shturmovik has been flown, ever, in the US!

My regards,

Widewing

I'm sure we must have got some somewhere after WW2, captured, downed, whatever?

It's really the first, ever? That would be most impressive!

I talked with a guy from the FHC at Oshkosh - he said the thing was such a collossal POS when it came back from Russia noone would fly it for the original May 5th unveiling. They re-restored it, and it finally flew.
