RIP Mary Louise Rasmuson

Colonel Rasmussen was one of about 400 original officers selected during WWII for what was initially called the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps.

President Eisenhower named her director of the renamed Women’s Army Corps in 1957 and President Kennedy reappointed her in 1961.

She received high praise from her male superiors and won multiple honors and awards, including a Legion of Merit award for her work in integrating black women into the corps.
