Custom Arena - AI Bombers DO NOT Make Their Drops

Greetings,

As the thread name implies, AI Bombers in the custom arena DO NOT make their drops.

Currently I am working on a detailed project revolving around the "Baiders Raiders" mission. The objective mission in itself will have 3 difficulty settings on each respective side.

But I have come across a bit of a problem. I uploaded the mission I have so far "CBL_Baiders" for the "NEW BRIT" terrain to test the game-play. But I have noticed the severe problem of the AI bombers not making their drops at all. I have tested it offline in-editor of course and it worked like magic. But alas, it does not in the Custom Arena.

Am I doing something wrong I am overlooking?
However, I have noticed that none of the bombers even open their doors at any point. Even during the Drop-Ord segment.





Either I am completely missing something. Or there is a bug.

Bob I know I havent done any of the mission editing, but do you have to program the ai planes to open doors?? They might not drop due to doors being closed...

That is what I thought at one point too...

BUT...

During the test runs available they do what they should just fine... Just not in the Custom arena.

Besides that...

There is currently no option for planes to do specific functions such as opening doors, dive flaps, or even setting a salvo or delay. The only thing you can do is merely program a segment to DROP_ORD and pick the target for the bombers to drop everything on.

The boiling pot is put away and the crab has gone back to sea...

I gave it another try on a different terrain with different altitude and speed. This time the doors did open, but still no bombs have dropped. Guess it was worth a try this way.
"I used the mission I have uploaded for testing purpoess "CBL_1" on the "DUELING TERRAIN"

DROP_ORD segment length: 2 miles
DROP_ORD altitude: 15,800ft AGL

Bombs start off at the same speed as the bomber.  When they drop the loose speed but you still have to lead your target.  If the AI determines that there is not enough lead to hit the target (measured from the beginning of the DROP_ORD segment) it will not drop.

Ah, so that means the segment itself is not long enough...

Fair enough I'll do some experimenting to give a update.  :cheers:

I guess I am simply going to have to ask for clarification... Not that what you said wasn't clear already...

Please correct me if I am wrong, and I am probably wrong profoundly...

What I tried to do is extend the DROP_ORD segment to about 8 miles. I thought to myself this would provide plenty of time? Of course this has failed miserably...

In the film, the Lancs were traveling along a 8 mile long DROP_ORD segment... If you notice the BombBay's were open and then the Bombs in the Bombay vanished as they should... BUT... no boom or any troops falling... There was enough altitude and I hope plenty of LEAD time "And that is where I may be going wrong"...

If you're saying the AI determines if there is enough lead time from the BEGINNING of the DROP_ORD segment, then I must figure out where to put the crosshair in respect to the beginning of the DROP_ORD segment... IF that is so... How do I find it?

Would it make sense if the Target Crosshair was automatically generated in respect to the beginning of the DROP_ORD segment? Using the calculation provided from the segment properties for no guess work?

I apologize for rambling but its 4:30am and still playing with this lol

If the bomb bay doors were open then it wanted to drop.  I've gotta ask - did you select a weapon loadout for the lancs that has bombs?

If so, did you re-calculate the segment so that it knew of the new length?

Now that I am actually awake with some equanimity...

In the film provided, I rode along with Zodiac close to the underbelly of the Bombers. Since the doors did open we were able to see the bombs... THEN right about the point where I see the bombs drop in the editor, we were able to see the bombs disappear in the lanc's bomb bay. BUT, nothing happened. They were not too low. Their bombs simply disappeared. And another visual clue of this happening is that the goons did not drop troops as well... If the goons did drop, then they disappeared like the Lanc's bombs did...

Yes, All lancasters in the mission are set with the x18 500lb and x1 4000lb loadout. And of course the Goons are loaded with troops.





This also happened with the mission I have uploaded CBL_1 that I use for experimental purposes... Same idea except a higher altitude...

The mission that we filmed/tested was the project CBL_Baiders...
