Legit Plane speed
« on: August 12, 2012, 02:11:33 PM »
I know loads of guys have complained about the speeds of planes. Well I love the 109G6 and the F4U1A but the 1A's speed is just stupidly slow. The most I have ever done level flight was 300mph...meanwhile the F4U1A was capable of speeds above 420 level flight. Yes i know what your going to say "You need to be at this altitude to fly that fast" well that's BS. The 1A was at 2,000ft when it broke the record of 400mph...later the F4U4 and 1D were capable of 450...and late Corsairs are even rumored to have hit 500. I would just like to see that real speeds of these planes.

Check "plane Performance" on the AH homepage:

If you do not achieve that speeds in game, calibrate your throttle :)

And if you think the speed curves above are incorrect, it should be easy for you to prove it by presenting different hard data, not just hearsay / rumor stuff.

nasty I think you are confusing IAS (Indicated air speed) and TAS (True air speed)

In AH the big needle is IAS and the little red mark on the out side is TAS.

http://www.hitechcreations.com/component/option,com_ahplaneperf/Itemid,221/view,ahplaneperf/index.php

Use the above link to look up the speeds of the plane you debate about.
We show the f48-1a doing about 418 mph at 20k

If you are not getting these speeds.

1. make sure your throttle is 100% and wep is engaged.
2. make sure your flaps and gear are not down.

HT, with all due respect I don't think he's complaining that he can't reach the game's top speed. He's complaining that the planes can't do absurdly high speeds at 2000 feet alt. See his comments about F4u1s breaking 400mph at 2000 feet.

He's not posing a legitmate concern. (IMO)

If they programmed AH by rumor the P-51 would be the only plane anyone flew. Read a few books by the pilots that actually flew the F4U. The plane was never as good as it is in this game. Fortunately we dont have airplanes breaking down in AH.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Bet you $5 its top speed was at 20k, just like many (many) other R-2800 engined aircraft.

Regardless if nasty's concern is legitimate or not you should re-read HiTech's answer Krusty.  Not just the information it presents but how he presents it.  HiTech has both answered his question and done it in a way that teaches and doesn't call him an idiot for asking it.

If one were to quickly review the testing results published at WWII aircraft performance for the F4U-1 you could come away with the impression that ours might be slow in a realtive manner to say a 109 in acceleration and climb. It would be easy to make that mistake without knowing what performance figures HTC chose to go with from published WW2 data sheets. Or it would be helpful if the  OP provideded access to his sources for the performance figures he is quoting.

Offline in the drone circle at 3000ft I never get any of the F4U family 25% fuel much above 300mph on Militairy power while holding that slight left hand turn. And the speed tests performed in Conneticut and Maryland 43-44, the F4U's were flying straight and level. It takes a while to get an F4U up to speed but, not much to loose it. If the OP wants to fly an F4U at the speeds he thinks they should fly at. The perk price on the F4U-4 is not that high.

Yeah, but in a constant turn without WEP on.... nobody is going to think that's the same as top level speed in a straight line. There has to be a common sense factor, don't you think?

Knowing combat in the MA, I suspect the OP has neglected to flesh out completly under what circumstances his real observation comes from. Or what truely motivated this effort. By offering his admiration of the G6 and F4U-1A in the same line, he is making a gaff of what is really on his mind. The two fighters are not similare enough that you can move from one to the other seamlessly.

I suspect a more relavent answer to his question is the name of a top F4U-1A teacher rather than trying to answer the question: why does the F4U-1A excellerate like a dumptruck compaired to the Bf109-G6.

At face value in a post questioning the speed performance of the F4U-1A there is no purpose to mentioning the Bf109-G6. The comparison is like Chevy trucks to Camero's. Both can do 100mph getting there at different rates in a straight away. The truck can even carry a bit a weight and still get just close to 100mph eventualy.

Many places out there on the internet only give the speed at alt for WW2 fighters along with information shining the best light possible on them. Most neglect to point out that the tests in conneticut and patuxent that achived 380-400 near sea level were with cleaned up airframes. The perk on the F4U-4 is not that high if he wants to fly an F4U that feels as fast as a 109.
