PunkBuster Trouble
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:02:39 PM »
I'm having trouble running BF2 due to getting the good ole' "Service Communication Error: PnkBstrA.exe" message from PunkBuster. I've tried the old tricks of deleting and re-installing the PB folder, but it seems that the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe files are completely missing from my windows folder. I tried running and installing with the firewall off: no good.  I'm running a Windows 7 64-bit. I've googled this problem and it seems a lot of people are having trouble with this, particularly windows 7 users.

Anybody know whats up? I'd hate to have to re-install the game and patch update again!

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

1.Download and install the PBSVC program from http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe

2.Open the program and Uninstall PunkBuster

1.This will clear any older versions of PunkBuster that may be experiencing an issue

3.After uninstalling the program, download and run PBSetup from http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

4.Once downloaded, open PBSetup and select Add a Game and add Battlefield 2 from the available list.

5.After adding Battlefield 2, click Check for Updates until you receive a message stating No New Updates Needed.

•This may take several updates depending on the game and version of PunkBuster.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response Ack, no luck though.

Just to clarify on the PBSVC program, are you saying I should 1.) run PBSVC > Install/Re-Install PB Service > Finish Test. "THEN" 2.) run PBSVC again > Uninstall/Remove PB Service > Finish Uninstall? (When I initially clicked on your first link it only gave me the option of installing the PB service; afterwards when I ran it again I was able to uninstall the PB service.)

This time around I was able to locate my PnkBstrB.exe file through windows explorer, but the PnkBstrA.exe file is still MIA. That's the part that is kicking me from the servers, they can't seem to communicate with this PnkBstrA.exe file because it apparently isn't there!
