Unless the gels are modifying the IR light into a frequency the human eye can detect - no.

Might be a good way to encourage cataracts though.

Huh, that would be a cool experiment for a School Science fair..
Hope it is worth the effort!

I just bought mine ready to go..
Some of them are quite decent, and aren't that spendy anymore...
And average guy can afford them without needing Pentagon Funding..

I remember when a starlite scope was a large as your weapon,
and weighed about as much too.. :lol  Things have come a long way!

I have a night vision sight on my hog gun. 4x fixed zoom, records digitally to a recording device and has a built in illuminator as well as a detachable IR spot/flood light.  It's equivalent I'm told to a GenII+ but there are some features I prefer to even Gen III stuff. Namely, price. <$1400 new in box. Using digital video technology vs traditional night vision technology. In terms of weight it has some but for a sportsman or recreational user it's a fair trade and very good bang for your buck.

Yes it works.

No it doesn't work as well as dedicated night vision devices.

Yes it is cheaper than dedicated night vision devices but again it doesn't work as well and has serious limitations as compared to the dedicated devices.

You got a link Golfer ?

What I use is the Digisight (N550) by Pulsar.

For the price, it can't be beat IMO.

One big advantage it has is the ability to use it during the day as well. It's nowhere near as good as optical glass of course however it means you can sight the thing in at a conventional range without having to shoot at night.

Wow that scope seem's really nice . I like to see one up close . My main shoots are right before daylight and right after and that scope would be just the thing .
