Reviewing the Firefly
« on: September 03, 2012, 01:50:30 PM »
So once again I bring this topic to our attention, it is my belief that the FF's gun has lost a significant amount of power, My evidence to this comes with the addition of the 3D Panzer and the Panther, now as far as I know the 17lbr should be able to stand off with the Panzer and Panther at modest ranges. However I am finding in AH this is not the case, Panthers and Panzers I have found to be more capable of surviving hits that would normally fry any tank since recent updates, This I dont see anything wrong with, Yet in standoff ranges I have found the Firefly's gun to be less effective against Medium tanks such as the Panzer and Panther I belive the rounds themselves have lost power in recent updates as the rubber bullet effect seems to be plaguing it again.

It could just be me, but I would like to ask the AH community if they are experiencing the same difficulties,
I would also Like to ask for your opinions on the FF's performance and its place in AH.

I used the firefly a few times before I quit playing, I honestly never gave it much of a chance because of a few things:

A) Its top speed is 22mph, a Tiger is 25mph, Panther is 29mph and T-34 is 32mph
It makes a huge difference when you are trying to gun and run when you are slightly slower then every opponent you will face.

B) Its armor - you CANNOT take a hit from any other tank period, two deaths I had were at 1500 yards from Panzer H's.

C) Its perk Value is 5-9 usually, you are getting an extremely GOOD gun with mediocre armor, the perk is quite good for it.

Your main asset is the 77mm gun, I had a shootout few tours ago at 1600 yards and blew the turret off a Panther, I died to Panzer of course from the same range - that speaks for the armor - long as you score the first hits you can kill a Panther/Tiger at a pretty decent range.

Considering the perks, i think Its a pretty good deal, long as you manage to kill a few tanks you can break even where a Panther I've killed up to 40-50 tanks and still lost perks.

However consider how many perks I have in vehicles, I rather drive a panther for the speed and armor upgrade and its only 10 perks more usually.

Edited:
I have honestly nothing bad to say about the Firefly, being its very low perked - its gun makes up for what it loses otherwise - its a 1 shot knock out tank most of the time, for the perks its right.

If there was a change, HTC would announce it.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Not if it was something that was not meant to be changed.

Then provide film and put it in the report bug section. HTC staff looks at it everyday.

I only seen a change with the Sherman 76 a while back, Firefly hasn't been changed for long as I can remember, gun is still as powerful as it was when it was added.

Haha, no wet storage.

Agreed, anyone who was in for the addition of the M4A3's also remembers how OP the firefly was. A Golly-geen quasi-tiger pretty much.

76.2mm, just FYI. The 77mm was used on the Comet tank, and fired a less powerfull round.

And I would agree with the assesment of the gun[/quote]

The thing with the firefly is that its not really something you can get into a brawl with. Remember, its nothing more than an up-gunned M4(75) with a slower top speed.

Really, I view it as more of a specialty tank now. You break it out when you need to knock out heavy units on the cheap, or when theres a nice long-range engagment going on.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

The two biggest problems with the Firefly are it's top speed and it's slow recoil.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

The Firefly has the second best AP gun in the game (actual damage to other gv's is unknown), only the King Tiger has a better AP round.

The Firefly is purely a tank destroyer, that is all it has really ever been.  If the lines of sight are long and the Firefly has a wee bit of cover to keep its front end protected, it is an awesome force.  The 6X zoom is nice, albeit a less than stellar optical clarity (which is only rightly reserved for the Germans).

The speed of the Firefly is not so much a weakness as the slower reload time and relatively poor armor.

I say it is perked just about right all things considered, it just has a smaller spectrum in which it can be used.
