Does anyone like cleaning multiple guns?
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:56:04 AM »
The reason I ask is it can take most of the day scrubbing and running patches through you're rifle after a day at the range.  Does anyone know of an easy fast way to clean their gun / guns? I mean really clean.  No residue on the patch when done!  If so please share.  It stinks and is a mess.

I do it the way we learned in the military. Give your weapon a good cleaning, repeat three days in a row.

That is what it feels like. Only with 4 guns it takes 4 times as long.

I use a bore snake. Makes cleaning a snap.

We've got these where I work...never used one though...they work good? I have a bunch of guns and I agree it takes a while to clean them all.

Bore snakes are good for a quick clean but run a clean patch through and it will not come out totaly clean after you ran a snake. If you have heavy copper fouling the snakes won't work very well either.
Something like M-pro 7 works well but it's made to soak the bore for a period of time to release the deposits.

I have a boresnake for each caliber, but I don't use them for after range cleaning.  I use them between loads when I'm working up loads, especially if changing powders.  Also to clean any lead out of a barrel if I'm using cast loads and have any leading.  After a day at the range, I just have an old towel draped over the ottoman, put a movie on, and go to cleaning.
Amazing you could actually recruit that much suck into one squad.

If it still shoots why do you have to clean it?  :noid  Got my dad's '06 for Christmas that he's been killing deer & elk with for >50 years. Still shoots good. took it apart 'cuz it was filthy. When I look the stock of...ewwww! I cleaned it really well & asked him how long it had been since it had a good cleaning. He said with a grin, "Still shoots good".  :D  Probably never.... :huh.

I suppose you can shell out a lot of cash for a large ultrasonic cleaner.  It would make cleaning very easy. :)

I personally find cleaning my weapons soothing. I dont like anyone else cleaning them, but practice has helped me with time. Ill clean a few guns in an hour or so and they are all sparkling inside and out with a little rem oil to keep things moving smooth. I go through a lot of q-tips and hoppes to get them to a level of cleanliness Im comfortable with.

^ This.  I used to spend a lot of time at my computer here and for the longest time had my gun cleaning mat set up on my desk and inbetween loading screens I'd take my pistol apart and put it back together. Or clean it while watching youtube videos. (If you can do this 5 times in one loading screen, its time to upgrade your computer.) :D
It's something to do and it is very nice and relaxing, like back when I was in JROTC and would spend the afternoon shining my boots.

Now that that forum post has snared me into playing Airsoft and I've switched from AEG's to realistic GBB's. (The internals are so similar to real guns it's scary)  I usually come home from playing most of the morning, get all my gear put away, sit down with some food and flip the TV on while I clean out my guns and oil them back up.
Grab a shower and head off to work.

I cant stand cleaning them.

That's why if "things" ever kick off, im using my rifle to take someones* rifle ammo & food, off someones* corpse. Anything that's not bloody (cloths) or bullet ridden is coming with me to be depleted. Till i am depleted.

Get ready for it.  :rock

I love cleaning my guns. I routinely clean them even if they haven't been shot. Every couple weeks I clean two or three, it keeps them clean and rust free.

I usually throw in a movie or turn on some good tunes.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
