What exactly needs managing? If you're worried about tracking cookies tick 'do not track me' in settings and set options for keeping data in history. There you can define sites which you allow to keep cookies and you can order firefox to clear your history each time you close it.

I agree.  Even IE has better cookie management than Firefox does.

This should be easily achieved by unticking 'accept cookies' and then setting exceptions.

Go to firefox add-ons and search for 'cookie' there are several tools for cookie management including white-listing. Are you saying none of those fit your bill?

nope, I'm asking for recommendations from others here so I dont have to spend hours downloading and assessing all the different options

There is a program called Sandboxie which has been getting mention in the techie podcasts lately. It runs in isolated space and when you are finished running the app (Firefox in your case) everything gets wiped out. I have not tried it but I do have it marked to check out.

I use Firefox only for youtube so its not really a big deal to me.

Cookies are harmless for the most part. My preferences for Firefox cookie management are simple, a little modified from default: Keep until Firefox closes, Clear history when Firefox closes. I also have NoScript, which I have found easy enough to use without sacrificing my Internet experience.
