Rudder Pedals
« on: September 07, 2012, 08:45:45 PM »
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions about rudder pedals?

I am looking at:

1.  Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals

2.  CH Products Pro Pedals

3.  Saitek PRO Flight Combat Rudder Pedals

Any Pros or Cons?

Currently using a Saitek X52 joystick.

Appreciate any advice.

All of them will work with the stick you have.

I have only used CH and love them. They have spent years and years getting kicked around under my desk without a single issue. Some people have gotten a pair that had a pinched wire, but I have only heard of a few. The biggest complaint I've heard is the spacing between pedals, it's about 6 inches. This keeps your feet pretty close together. I have no issue as I rest my feet on the pedals and spread my knees for comfort. The plus side is they take up very little room under your desk.

The Saitek I heard were not that strongly made. Plastic with the runners sometimes popping out of the slides or something like that. They are wider, and so take up a lot more room.

I have the saitek rudder pedals, dont have any complaints other than they sit at an odd angle to me and after a while my feet cramp.  but other than that I have never had any probs and have been using them for over a year now.  Same with my x52 no problems other than the connecting cord getting loose but replacing for $12 soved the problem.

My first peds were Saitek. After 9 months one side or another would lock in the full forward position. Sent them back for repair...same thing a few months later. The foot rests are adjustable as is the tension, which I liked but they became unuasable.

Went to Ch Peds about 5 years ago...never an issue.

The CH pedals are more sturdy. I felt like if I tried just enough I would be able to break the Saitek set I had. The CH pedals also cup your feet and support them. The saitek pedal is formed more like a brick that they attached to the rudder bar.

My CH pedals have lasted me for almost 3 years now, and I really beat them up bad.

I fly with CH pedals and still haven't gotten used to them.  I made up for that by not being able to shoot well too.

The Saitek regular pedals are slightly inferior to the CH pedals in quality, but they are a fair bit wider than the CH pedals.

The Saitek pro COMBAT pedals are twice as good as the CH pedals IMO, I have both and haven't used my CH pedals since I got the PRO's.

They have a lot more metal in their construction, the pedals are WAY larger than the CH ones are and have a far sturdier base/platform.  They are the most expensive of the three, about 70% more expensive than the CH ones, but they are by far worth it.  Ignore the people saying Saitek is crap compared to CH, this may be true of their old pedals, but the new PRO's are the best you can buy for the money.  If money is no object, order some of those EuroPeds or Simpeds  that are like 500 dollars, they look pretty decent, but cost more than an entire TM Hog setup.  Order them quickly though as the manufacturer has stopped all production as of last month, and will only build you some if you bribe him I bet.  The used market is almost non existent for the simpeds as the users who get them rarely sell them.

All the silver colored parts you see in this picture are metal, the base is hard plastic similar to the CH plastic quality, or a bit better IMO.  You can change the angle of the pedals as well as the tension, I've found this to be a big plus over the CH pedals which don't have this option.  These pedals are a lot larger than the earlier Saitek Pedals, and a LOT larger than the CH pedals in terms of the base and width between them.  Some like this, some don't.  As I said, I have a full CH setup and ditched the CH peds when I picked these Saitek ones up to go with my TM setup, and I'll never go back to the CH pedals.

Gman when it comes to the pro series other than the pedal itself did they replace any of the track that they ride on with sturdier material?

i have saitek rudder pedals and a ch joystick and throttle. the peddles are about 3 years old and have not had an issue with them other then maybe the centering detent being worn out from gameplay. i like them very much and have never had a problem with them, other then vacuuming the cat hair out of them now and again.

I finally moved to rudder pedals from the twisty stick (and man, it's taking some getting used to) but I went with the CH... because I heard they were more reliable than Saitek, and the online reviews backed this up.

Anyway, they ARE close together... and Gman says the Saitek Pro pedals are GTG, so if you want them spaced out go for that!
