Home owners insurance...it's a must
« on: September 08, 2012, 12:10:04 PM »
Wednesday night I had an electrical fire in the attic of my home that totally destroyed the kitchen and roof. We had extensive smoke and water damage though out the rest of the home. Between the cost of the repairs, eating out every meal, the cleanup process and the hotel costs for the next two months, the total bill for all this will be well over a hundred thousand dollars.Which had it not been for our insurance, would of come out of my pocket.
I can not stress enough the importance of having a good insurance policy in place. All of the above will only cost me a 845.00 deductable and the stress and discomfort of hotel living for the next 2 months...the length of time of estimated repairs.
So if any of you out there don't have insurance, whether it be homeowners or even rental insurance, I can tell you from experience that the pain of writing out a premium check is nothing compared to not writing one and having something like this happen.
Without insurance my family and I really would be "living in a van down by the river" right now.  :rofl

Thank you State Farm and Servpro  :salute

Sorry to hear about that Uptown.  Although our house is only worth 60 grand or so, it's insured for 150.

Since the economy blew up, one of my rental houses is 2bedroom worth 45k and its insured for 150k.. kinda wish the hurricanes would trash it, but its a concrete block building, no chance.

Major Bummer man.. Long ago, I lost a set of tools at work to an Electrical Fire..
Without my own insurance I would have been stuck with cheap replacements..
That happens all the time.. Lose Snapon or Mac rig, and gets replaced with Craftsman..
Between the company insurance and my own, I managed to replace with units of equal quality..

House is insured, oh yeah!

Better hope the insurance company doesn't deem to make it up as replacement value.  They did that time and again in NOLA after Katrina, and in most cases, the homeowner lost out.
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

Glad you and yours are all OK. Things and houses can be replaced.
