Looking for regular TA time twice a week
« on: September 11, 2012, 11:03:13 AM »
Hello Trainers. I am looking for someone with free time for about 30-45 minutes per session mabey twice a week, ideally three days a week. I'm EST timezone and am a single parent so during my lunch break is ideal for me. I own my business so the times can be flexable. I would like to make this last until Jan. as I am trying to log 200 hours in the TA before the end of this year.

I already have been working with my Squad CO Zensen of Duxford RAF. This is a personal goal of increasing my stick time.

Any and all help is much appreciated. TY

Tuesday's & Thursday's around 12'oclock noon EST for about 1 hour, are the days I will be seeking TA Time.

Please reply in this post so I can make sure too not waste your time by No-Show'ing. Even if it would only be one day you happen too have and would be willing too work with me I would be more than happy too learn. In my humble option the more exposure to different "play" or "flying" styles, the faster I can progress my learning curve.

 Dead,

The trainers are all volenteers and dont get paid for our services. Most of us have jobs and dont have the time during the daytime.

I'm in the TA most evenings between 9pm and 11 pm est. so if you can drop by one night I'd be glad to help you, provided I'm not busy with someone else.

    :salute

PS: I'm pretty sure FLS is in the TA on the weekends between 10 and noon est. if thats more convient for you.

Ty Sir. I was trying to see if anyone had the time during the time frames I listed... But I will start dropping in on the TA more often when I log. (Most of the time when I log there are 0 in the TA)

 :old:

I thought I'd take a minute and give everyone more back story so they can make an informed decision.

I started playing AH 2 1/2 months ago with zero knowdgle of flight sims or flight combat. In the past two months I have bought a few books http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aviation/pilot_handbook/ & http://books.google.com/books?id=hBxBdKr0beYC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false

On top of reading both of those vigorously I have also watched every YouTube video by players I can find in forums and by searching online. General Flight is not a problem... (coordinated turns with wingman ect...) it is taking the text I read and making practical application of it, then making it muscle memory.

Also now I am seeking out my civilian pilot lisence too include an instrument rating, money and time are the hurdles to overcome.

I am 33 years old and not the sharpest crayon in the box, however I like to think I am. I build RC Airplanes as a hobbie from the young age of 11 and currently build IMAC 1/4 scale for friends or friends of friends.

ACM is what I'm after here... Once I have a more solid foundation I plan on taking it to the DA but not until after the first of next year do I think I would be ready. You do not have too be a "AH Trainer" for me... You just have too be willing too tell me what I did wrong which landed you a gun solution :joystick: and put me in the dirt :bhead

Thanks guys in advanced!  :salute

Shout-Out too the great squad Duxford RAF & the guys there who have invested a lot of time in me so far which has got me where I'm at today

Hello Dead.  I am not a trainer and I am not especially good either.  I think the TA is great to learn from because you do not get shot down and can just keep at it without having to spend the time reupping.  Tuesday is the one day I have off and I spend alot of that day in Aces High.  I am Zoney in-game and would happily spend the time with you that day at the time you specified, 12 EST.  I will most likely be in the main arena already flying when you log in.  PM me, give me a bit of time to land my current mission and we can go at it for hours if that is what you want.

I may not be very good or helpful if you need someone to actually be able to tell you exactly what you did wrong, but with practice I think you will learn what does not work and then we, together can then try sometihing else.  Most likely I will learn as much as you.

I am reasonably good at high speed approaches, controlling my aircraft at the upper limits of its capabilities, maintaining good SA and becoming a difficult target to kill should I lose the advantage.

BTW I do not think I know your in-game handle sir.

What I have described may not be what you are looking for sir, but it is what I have to offer.   :salute

Deadstik is my in game handle

First, if you can manage the time get with Morfiend  for an hour or so. I've been here 11 years and I'm trying to free up some time to spend with him one of these nights to work on a few things. Working with a trainer is the best thing in the world. It's is well worth adjusting your schedule.

Second, reading is great. The book by Shaw is the bible. also check out The Trainers page http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/  Soda's Page for aircraft info http://members.shaw.ca/soda_p/models.htm and Peabody's page for beginner info http://www.techvideoreview.com/FlightSimMovies/AcesHigh/Training/AcesHighTrainingByPeabodyPage01Full.htm

Third, pick a plane and stick with it for a while (4 weeks is good). Most planes are flown a bit different, leads are different, and defense is different. If you stick with one and learn it inside out you'll be able to figure out what transfers to other planes, and what doesn't. Your jumping from turny birds to cannon birds over to 50 cals, and boomer and zoomers. Spit VIII and XVI are the easier planes to fly and kill in, but if you want to fly the Hog because it's the bird you like, use that one. The point is to learn it inside out. Becoming a killer takes time and a whole lot of practice.

Good luck, and welcome to the addiction  :devil

I am willing to work with you as often as you find me in the TA.

I'm hesitant to arrange any further private training time; I've gotten 'stood up' far too often and I'd rather help people as they log into the TA itself.

deadstikmac,

Before you do anything else get with one of the trainers.  Other players may end up teaching you bad habits that will be hard to break or may not be able to translate your mistakes to you properly causing you to correct them improperly.  I'm not pointing at anyone specific, just trying to provide some good, practical advice.

I've gone both routes, working with other players I deem good (some of the best in the game) and working with trainers and I can tell you from experience there's no comparison in how much faster you'll progress with a trainer.

I've been doing this for sixteen years and I still won't pretend to be good enough to train someone.  It takes a unique skillset few have.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
