Ad Aware anti-virus?

The McAfee free 2 year subscription that came with my system has expired.

I haven't been using anything to replace it for the last several months, but I'm nervous about it. (12 year old in da house!)

I see that Ad Aware has a new free anti- virus program.

Has anyone used it?

I know that the old Ad Aware was a pretty good program until I replaced it with CCleaner.

I found that if I ran CCleaner before Ad Aware, Ad Aware NEVER found anything, so I got rid of it.

Anywhooooo.......Any opinions on the new Ad Aware Anti- Virus??

Use Avira Free here small foot print and catches stuff all the time

Microsoft Security Essentials is free, lightweight and about as crappy as any regular antivirus. I prefer my windows machines totally without antiviruses - but then again I never even browse internet using them. I use linux or Mac to do that.

I would use microsoft essentials, it's what I have.  good luck trying to get rid of mccaffey.

I dumped McAfee, moved to MS Security Essentials and won't ever look back.

BTW to get rid of McAfee you have to DL an app from their website.  Normal uninstall techniques won't work.

Oh and one more thing, if you've ever paid for McAfee they will automatically bill you when you're subscription is up but they will issue a prompt refund when you call to complain.

I have dropped AdAware off my toolbox many years ago due to it not finding any nasties other than cookies - which aren't bad per se. I don't know about the recent versions if they'd be much better. Nevertheless, AdAware has a good reputation, has been licensed as an add-on to a couple of brand antivirus programs during the last five years etc. Since the price is right and the company has a reputation to maintain, it wouldn't hurt to try. As Zack put it "...and good browsing habits" keeps you safe better than any software.

I use Avast Free, in silent mode supplemented with Malwarebytes Antimanware and  Glary's Utilities. Also stay off the porn sites, lol.

I use Avast Free in silent mode, too. I have also disabled the cloud updating and put AH in every exceptions list I could find there.
