rumor about Spit 5
« on: September 16, 2012, 12:22:25 AM »
What is it about this version that is rumored to make it the penultimate Spitfire?

I'm guessing it is a balance between turn (ie Spit I), and cannon armed. Kind of the sweet spot similar to the Bf-109G2 being the balance between turn and engine power to play verticle game.

Any thoughts?

The best balanced Spitfires have generally been considered to be the Mk VIII and/or Mk IX.  Griffon Spits are acknowledged to be superior warplanes, but substantially less fun to fly.

I've never heard the claim that the Mk V was best before.
