Distorted headset
« on: September 16, 2012, 12:14:04 PM »
Pretty much out of nowhere, my Logitech headset (cheapo) is kicking back some static and slightly distorted sound. The headset works fine on my laptop so it's definately related to the desktop. I ran a DXDIAG which came back with no issues. Any thoughts? Seems as though this happened before but I forgot how I resolved it.

Thanks

roll-back & reload your driver first, make sure you have the latest driver upgrade for your system.  :salute

When the jack starts to go it will pick up that crackle and static type stuff. Do you unplug and plug it in all the time? Doing so loosens the connection. If you can get to the female end in the computer you can tighten the connections on some of the better connectors. On the cheaper ones they are closed in and can't be adjusted, so need to be replaced.

Oh Max brother... a USB headset?  Tell me you are just yanking at our chains!  USB sound is NOT really good in the game bro.  I've used a lot of different headsets in AW and AH and I gotta say that the best that I've used us the Turtle Beach (Yes, I like turtles) Earforce Z6 is by far the best one and most rugged so far.  But you have to have a SOUND CARD, and not one of them chip on the motherboard thingys.  If you need a PCIE sound card Maxie, just PM me and I'll see you get one.

Heyas Doc...The static cleared up ...dunno what caused it to come or go. I do have a Soundblaster Live! pci card. This Logicrap USB headset really isn't bad. Just for chits & shiggles, what 21st century SC would you recommend?

Two issues to be aware of. Windows 7 and USB dont get along real well. Of course I am against USB audio of any type anyway.

The second issue concerns power supplies. Audio anomalies are the first sign your PSU is aging. The second sign is data loss followed by. . . well you dont want to know the third sign.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Back in 2000 we had 6 workstations make a 'poof' sound accompanied by a long blue flash and smoke from the rear of the chassis. Was that a sign?  :devil The manufacturer said nothing was wrong with their PSUs :)

Hmmm... the Logicrap USB headset is what is worrying me.  Does the USB thingy just plug into a USB port or do you have separate speaker connections?  If it doesn't have different wires that plug into your SB card, you will have a conflict as the USB Logicrap is another sound card and will conflict with your SB PCI sound card.  Some advanced headsets like the TB Earforce Z6 that I use does have a USB connection but it is for power only and has multiple line outs that plug into my SB sound card.  I'm thinking that your problem is with power.  You might want to goto Control Panel/system/hardware/Device Manager/ your sound card and select properties and look for power management and make sure that it's not set to turn off for any reason.

All the Best...

PS.. I currently use a creative Xfi-titanium PCI card with Winblows XP but for winblow7 I hear the Recon 3D iPCI-Express is great.

Does your graphics card have a USB port?

My G35 works very well with the Logitec gaming software. :)
