I shoot prairie dogs and let them lay.  They are varmints and when they are not controlled they will die of the plague, so at least I give the coyotes and other predators a free meal.
I also shoot coyotes, they are very detrimental to the local (and native to the area) gray and red foxes.  I sell the pelts for $18 to $25 a piece depending on the quality of the pelt, the money is usually donated to the local bar or beer garden.
I shoot pigeons and let the farm cats have a warm meal (too many pigeons = mites and lice and disease), keep them thinned out!  Same goes for wabbits too!
I think there is validity in shooting animals and not eating their meat.  There is a reason we as mankind are on top of the food chain.
