Hmmmm... picturing the Pearl set up with new smoke effect. Too bad the targets on battleship row sink so quickly and don't have an opportunity to throw smoke throughout the area.
Still wish the airfield on that map wasn't right in the middle, it seems to take up too much room.
Sorry you don't like the terrain.
That terrain compresses 5 miles from RL into 1 mile in-game. This was done to include all the actual airfields there in 1941 (plus an extra or two). It makes for much better game-play in the AvA. Also of note, the height of all elevations were reduced by 1/2 to make it more realistic looking and simulate reasonable climb to altitude conditions.
Each historic airfield you find in avapearl is based upon the actual airfields that were there, including Ford Island and Hickam Field at Pearl Harbor. Due to the extreme shrinkage, many airfields are crowded or even moved a few miles from their proper location. Hickam and Ford Island wouldn't look like their 1941 counterparts done any other way, and Wheeler I believe it was, would look ridiculous squeezed into that narrow peninsula north east of Pearl.
Unfortunately, the ships in the harbor that are rafted up together all die at the same time due to splash damage. Nothing I can do about that, but it took more than one bomb to sink them. That to me is a good compromise.
Only the Arizona throws smoke because it's another compromise for people with low frame rates in a very busy part of the terrain. Perhaps you have a state-of-the-art rig like I do, but I try to imagine what the frame rates would be for everyone else if all those ships are throwing smoke and fire.
