Hmmmm... picturing the Pearl set up with new smoke effect.  Too bad the targets on battleship row sink so quickly and don't have an opportunity to throw smoke throughout the area.

Still wish the airfield on that map wasn't right in the middle, it seems to take up too much room.  :aok

Sorry you don't like the terrain.

That terrain compresses 5 miles from RL into 1 mile in-game. This was done to include all the actual airfields there in 1941 (plus an extra or two). It makes for much better game-play in the AvA. Also of note, the height of all elevations were reduced by 1/2 to make it more realistic looking and simulate reasonable climb to altitude conditions.

Each historic airfield you find in avapearl is based upon the actual airfields that were there, including Ford Island and Hickam Field at Pearl Harbor. Due to the extreme shrinkage, many airfields are crowded or even moved a few miles from their proper location. Hickam and Ford Island wouldn't look like their 1941 counterparts done any other way, and Wheeler I believe it was, would look ridiculous squeezed into that narrow peninsula north east of Pearl.

Unfortunately, the ships in the harbor that are rafted up together all die at the same time due to splash damage. Nothing I can do about that, but it took more than one bomb to sink them. That to me is a good compromise.

Only the Arizona throws smoke because it's another compromise for people with low frame rates in a very busy part of the terrain. Perhaps you have a state-of-the-art rig like I do, but I try to imagine what the frame rates would be for everyone else if all those ships are throwing smoke and fire.  :uhoh

That's a great terrain! we had an awesome "Day of Infamy" in there. That might have been my favorite Line of Fire battle, they were all good though.

No no no Easyscor.  I'm sorry, you read WAY to much into my comment.  Actually LOVED Pearl, I haven't flown a torpedo bomber that much in years!  I was simply commenting on the fact that with the airfield in what seems like the middle of the harbor, making a torpedo run was dicey at best as you had to pull off bow/stern shots or navigate over a lot of land and immediately drop the torpedo practically the second you were feet wet again.

Not sure, but I think a torpedo would actually kill two battleships which were moored side by side due to splash damage.

True about the new rig and designing for everyone.

Again, I have the utmost admiration for anyone who puts the time that some folks do simply for the enjoyment of others.  So I definitely meant no disrespect in regards to the Pearl terrain.

Yeah, I probably did. Sorry, and thanks for the loved part. Been a lot on my mind lately.

You might also want to load that terrain offline and launch a GV from the Hanger spawn at A1 (among others. Hint, hint).

Yes on startup it is not as realistic as the standard. I think all the smoke is tied together somehow where it can't be different.

Yes, it's an unintended consequence.

Also gunsmoke uses the same bmp's.  I played around with them and I did get them lighter and the gunsmoke was less strange looking, but I had some other consequences so will bow to the master, I'm sure he will tweak them to perfection
