What happened to new aircraft
« on: September 24, 2012, 01:23:24 AM »
I think we could use some Soviet light or medium bombers. Or the Petlyakov Pe-3 which was a night fighter version of the successfull Petlyakov Pe-2.  The last mentioned would be a delightful addition also.  We have no Russian bombers for senario's or FSO's except those from the USA in the lend least. And an outstanding choice for late war would be the  Tupolev Tu-2.

There is no doubt that AH has a few glaring holes: the He111 is probably the biggest.  The Ki43 "Oscar", Tu-2, and Wellington all round out that very well.

I give a big +1 to adding the Tu-2.  The Pe-2 isnt much more than the 110C-4 or A20 (A20 used w/o wing bombs) currently in AH.

The US has all their important bombers.  The British could certainly use the Wellington.  The Germans are obviously missing the He111.  The Japs have their two most important level bombers in the G4M and Ki67 (B5N too!).  But the Soviets... well... they get nothing.  Time to add in the Tu-2 (and the He111!!!).   :aok

The 111, being a mid-'30s era aircraft, was an easy meat, even to the Hurri1s and Spit1s in the BoB... image in against La7s and Ponies...   Ju-188 instead   :aok

And yup, a big +1 to the Tu-2

AH isn't just about the LW MA. We need a few less able bombers to add some balance to early war scenarios. Currently many early war fighters struggle to even catch let alone bring down fast bombers like the Ju 88A-4 and A-20.

Indeed, but see, an aircraft what was mercylessly slaughtered by hurricane 1s... where could you use it with any hope of survival?

I'd say the He 111 would be fairly survivable in a 1939-41 scenario so long as they have a fighter escort. Things only look really bad for the He 111 once the cannon birds like the Spit 5 and Hurri 2C show up in numbers.

Considering I did a sucessfull bombing raid in LW in a JU87 with the 1800KG bomb, I'd say anywhere as long I get fighter support!

Sir, i have won a 3vs1 in a Ju88, against an F4u, a lala and a 38...  im not good, but that little uglyness can turn like crazy.
The 111 is determined to fly straight, and has a very weak defensive firepower.

I'm not debating the fighting skills of the 88. I can't get the hang of it, but I know some people who can. Like yourself.

For the HE 111, as you said, it was a bomber. Not a divebomber/ attack plane like the 88. However with fighter cover, it will be able to make it to target and back. It is about team work. I'm also mad enough to try it un escorted as I did with the 87. Just because it requires a bit of extra work, does not mean that one of the most committed planes in WW2 should be excluded from the game. Heck, I have a BoB patch from a scenario and it has a HE 111 on it! A game patch has a plane not in the game because that plane is so Iconic!
