Fear not, SwampRat, I was in, waited and waited and waited, got into the air and was dead in 10 minutes.
What a waste of a day.
I don't even know where to begin. Got in at 230 to check in, was told 1/2 an hour. Waited. 3 came and went. then 330. Then 4. Finally, we got instructions and some clues at 430 and I guess we rolled about then.
Don't wanna slam a fellow squaddie but oh well, for some reason, I was assigned a gunner. Then BeTown opted to take him. First irking. Then, as we all appear on runway, some fools drop bombs on it. (We were ju88s). As we got into the air, following the lead shoulda been Blue Angels try outs. All this hassle to have RW working and no one talks on it. So, its "try to follow the lead". We are all over the place, and finally get the idea we are hunting for a CV. While trying to catch up to lead (BeTown), I hear richochets. F4 on me, and before I can put a crosshair on him, Im dead. If Id had my assigned gunner, I might still be up there.
Oh sure, I can go back in as a gunner or something, but the heck with that. I havent seen this many warps since a Trek Convention and the utter lack of communication and leadership has me beyond ticked off. Its a gorgeous day outside and I wasted it in here. If it had been a fun time, Id feel less guilty sitting inside.
Ah well, glad to hear I wasnt the only one to have difficulties in there. I did get disco'd when i went from hangar to runway, but got lucky and made it back in.
Sorry to sound negative to those that worked hard on this event. I'm sure you tried but to the low-folks on the totum pole, it was a lot to be desired.
