Your Own Arena Settings
« on: October 01, 2012, 08:07:40 PM »
If you ever wanted to fly in an arena set up the way you wanted, but don't know how, read on...

I'm offering to host a custom arena for you and up to 14 of your friends - sorry, but custom arenas can only have 16 (you and I count as two of the 16). You choose the map and how you want it, and I'll set it up. Night, short icons, long icons, no icons, minimal damage from puffy, little damage from guns, neon green skies and orange clounds, strong winds, heavy fog, whatever.

If you think your setup might be fun and draw in a crowd, PM me or reply here. I'm generally available most evenings between 19:00-22:00 Central Time, but not Fridays when I'm working the FSO or Saturdays in general.

Sometimes it's more fun to host an arena that it is to fly the same old same old.  :joystick:

Wind 5 to 15 mph

Multiple cloud layers

Darkness every 4 hours for 30 mins

Ammo bunkers would take 3000 lbs to destroy

Barracks would take 200 lbs to destroy

Radar towers would take 1000 lbs to destroy

Fuel tanks would take 500 lbs to destroy

All auto and manned ack guns would need 5 times the damage to be destroyed.

A 2 minutes "time out" after getting shot down/killed/etc.  (a wish)

Hangers would take 4800 lbs to destroy.

Those are just a few.   ;)

Clouds are part of the terrain, although we can upload custom cloud files (but someone needs to make them).
The arena goes from dusk to dawn; you have to manually make it night.
Changing all the hardnesses is possible, just takes some calculations.
Winds can vary in strength and direction, in 2k increments.
You can force a "time out" after a death, and even have a max deaths per hour limit.

Or we can just open a custom arena ourselves? And place the arena setting ourselves? And upload our own clouds.... ourselves... Heck even save our arena settings to our folder ourselves...

Multiple cloud layers would be a very good idea.

You would have to properly hunt for cons and it would keep the fight higher  :old:

You could use cloud layers to escape to :old:

I'm pretty sure not every player has experience doing all of those things.

The arena goes from dusk to dawn; you have to manually make it night.

Checking offline, it doesn't seem to work that way. With default settings (arena settings>time>evening 17:00, morning 6:00) the clock will run through 17:00 without jumping to 6:00. I don't know why. If yours does do the jump, try setting evening to 24:00 and morning to 0:00, that's what I always did in the past.

As for 4 hours of daylight and then 30 minutes of dark, I don't think that can be automated.

One more tip, never set ColorLight[(Day/Night/Dusk)] to 0 0 0, trust me on that one. :old:

I was just making an offer for those who might want to try something new, but don't know how. Did you even read the very first sentence in my post? The one that was at the very top and all by itself?

The game clock works differently online than offline.

+1.  Make that 5 minutes and it's a +2.   :joystick:

Wind 5 to 15 mph--change wind settings, variable speed not available

Multiple cloud layers--Not sure

Darkness every 4 hours for 30 mins---change time settings

Ammo bunkers would take 3000 lbs to destroy---change hardness settings

Barracks would take 200 lbs to destroy---change hardness settings

Radar towers would take 1000 lbs to destroy---change hardness settings

Fuel tanks would take 500 lbs to destroy---change hardness settings

All auto and manned ack guns would need 5 times the damage to be destroyed.---change hardness settings

A 2 minutes "time out" after getting shot down/killed/etc.  (a wish)--- change death settings***you will find, this setting gets old pretty fast! changing it to 5 minutes is also no big deal, but do you want to wait in the tower while your friends fly without you?

Hangers would take 4800 lbs to destroy.---change hardness settings

Those are just a few.   ;)

most of these can be done in the custom arena. see about in red for whats possible.
