There are no laws about the language we use here.

The U.S. does not have an "official" language, per se.

Its not real English you speak in the US anyway, its colonial English you use :old:

Texas is the only state where secession is a viable option.

Germany was the most common language in America at one point

When was that?

they had to bring laws to force people to learn English.

Any examples?

It's not a viable option for any state but Texas. Texas is the only state with it's own power grid.

We have the Grand Coulee dam, LOL! Among countless other power generating dams..
We are one of the great bread baskets (and Fruit baskets) of the world..
We have the greatest anchorages on the west side of North America..
Including the Trident Missile Sub Base at Bangor..
I could go on and on, listing the reasons we could stand on our own..

If the 4 states of the PNW broke away, it would be a new world power..

I read a article about it, it was due to a big drive by the Yanks encouraging immigrants from Europe due to exspansion of the US economy and a shortfall in population, the common language for these people was german apparently.

My dad is American(German) and my mom is hispanic, I grew up around my hispanic side of my family, all I know about my dad is that he was in the navy and his name. My mom always spoke in American( britts call it English). I also speak Spanish. I believe that if you move to a place you should learn the language and if you dont want to, then stfu and move on to a country that speaks your language.
The Omish say "English" is the devil.(language, dress code, music, etc.) . Yet, the Omish speak German, the same language Adolf Hitler spoke. Try New York, sounds like you are in Israel, or  Palestine. Hispanics been part of the USA since Nevada,New Mexico, Colorado, California, Texas. One place that makes me sick, puerto rico, they want to be a state but not even their law enforcement speaks English..sheeesh

Well, this starts to sound different than "German was the most common language in America", more like that German was the most spoken native language by immigrants during a certain period. Which makes a lot more sense to me  ;)

There were more Germans than probably any other non-British group around the revolution, and we got a huge number of German immigrants during the mid 19th century for obvious reasons, but there is on top of that for some reason a (fairly widespread) 'myth' that German was just as close to becoming the official language while the constitution was being written as English was due to the number of speakers. I've never really read anything concrete about that though and I really don't think that there was such a significant number of German speaking immigrants at that time.
