Almost everything I want to say about this is banned by a forum rule, so I'm trying to be careful.

We should have an official national language, English.
But the patch on the back of that jacket looks like hate bait.   :frown:

My forefathers spoke Russian and Polish, but they learned English when they came to America.  They became Americans, flag waving patriots.  Old Glory, not La Raza.

I've worked side by side in construction with many good but foreign Latino folk who are here because they want to work and want a better life for their families, just like my forefathers.  But the system to get them here legally is broken, and they didn't go through any functional process to get here.  No health screening, no documentation.  Nothing to protect them or us.  Nothing to screen out criminals.  The system is BROKEN.  We need to sort this **** out.

Let me say this too: Given a choice between these good Latino folk, and our population of multi-generation domestic welfare recipients, I'll gladly share my neighborhood with these folk.  And, if these families, rooted in family values and work ethic, if they are the future picture of America, it's not at all bad.

The majority of immigrants are actually legal, the illegal ones are few (on average) and I've never heard of someone being forced to learn a different language. However imo, if you come to a live in a different country, you should accept and take on the language, culture, ethics etc of your destination. If you aint willing to integrate then go home. But thats just me.

I was at the hospital visiting someone yesterday and they had a list of languages they can talk to you in. This is totally necessary in an emergency. People from all over the world visit or move to the US legally every day.

Emotions make people focus on trivial pursuits and not see the problem was not created by the "illegals".

The real problem is the language politicians speak.

^^^^^   Lots of truth in this.

The USA was founded and built by immigrants.  That being said, the system does indeed need fixing.  In addition, immigrants should have cultural and ancestral pride, but plan on being an American.

Makes me know I am not the only one.

When I was 13 we lived in Venezuela for about 6 months. My parents paid $2000.00 each for my brother and I to go to an english speaking school.

We should not be forced to hire teachers that speak other languages to teach foreign students.

Have no problem with this, as long as they are using them to teach English...

I would not expect to move to and live in a foreign country without learning the language and culture.

I'm right in the thick of it down here. There are businesses here you should just avoid if you don't speak Spanish and want to get your order right. "To here, or for go?"

I've had people get pissed at me because I couldn't answer their questions in Spanish.

It just isn't good for people to have another way to be fragmented.
