Cuban Missle Crisis
« on: October 12, 2012, 02:01:03 PM »
With the anniversary of the Cuban Missle Crisis, I decided to reread a book called One Minute to Midnight by Michaels Dobbs. While a long book, it was loaded with a lot of info I hadn't known before. Such as:

Russion sub B-59 after being "tormented" by US ships (reading it reminded me of the movie the Bedford Incident), actually had a nuclear torpedo in the tube with the 1st, 2nd, and third officers arguing about the order to launch.

A Russian FROG cruise missle (basically a pilotless Mig-15) with a nuclear wardhead was ready to launch and aimed down at guantanamo bay.

The Russions had 40000 troops on Cuba.

And most surprising of all was that the "last straw" for Khrushchev regarding pulling the missles out, was the shootdown of Major Anderson's U2. Khrushchev had told his commanders in Cuba that no "offensive" actions were to done without express permission from Moscow. When the missle battery opened fire without such orders (and not without substantial goading by the cubans), Khrushchev realized he really had no control of events on the ground.

Very scary times.

Apparently I have read articles of classified documents that as they today "The crisis"  was for public consumption both in the US and the Soviet Union.

The Soviets were transporting missiles in clear sight on top of cargo ships for all to see, to antagonize the US, and Kennedy the master of playing the people was doing his part for the home population.

Khrushchev was doing the same, he came to the US I believe on a tour, he ended up being ousted.

The Soviet missiles were removed from Cuba and the US Jupiter missiles were removed from the borders of the Soviet Union :old:

I actually REMEMBER that, was young, but aware of the look in my parents eyes..
Knew why they kept us all home from school, why they were stocking up the basement.. Scary..

People should be scared now too.. What is happening in Syria is no joke.. The Jihadist forces,
including Al Qaeda, being funded and supplied by NATO, are killing Russian Troops now.. Saw this
assistant to joint chiefs come on Fox News, and say we should give the "Rebels", SAMs and ATGM's..
While the Rebels produce videos of them bragging about killing Americans in Iraq, just months ago..
Supplying the same terrorists, that kill our troops.. WTF IS GOING ON?????

This is UN FREAKING REAL.. All the Govt does is LIE, and LIE SOME MORE, to cover the previous lies..
Even when it is OBVIOUS, they lie some more.. Nothing happens, it just rolls on..

The Political, Financial, and Industrial elite, not assigned to a govt facility, have been BUILDING BUNKERS..
This has been quietly happening all over the country for a while now.. These are the people with the inside info...
Booming biz for contractors, that is how the word is getting out..

Combine all that, with the imminent financial collapse.. Media stroking it.. Election year.. This is not coincidental..
Everything pops at once, right???? For Maximum effect..

So many indicators.. Like weather signs before a hurricane arrives, all say BEWARE..

When folk get down on our political process, I've always said to take heart.  More power changes hands here in America than anywhere else in the world, and it happens without the least bit of disruption to our social fabric, every four or eight years.

But, now I'm worried like I've never been before.

==> But to the original post:  My father was in the Army when the crisis happened.  He told us kids about the moment they got called to mobilize for war.  Scary times indeed.  But, at least we could identify the enemy.  It's almost scarier now, just not as acute.

This is why Aces High was created so we don't dwell too much on getting played in the real world :)

I am still fuming about the 410 by the way :old:

Well, ridicule doesn't matter, as long as you are correct in the end..
Gettin hard to mock what is plainly visible on the news, daily..
The historical parallels to past tyranny, are flaming obvious!

More and More people are waking to this.. But I think it is too late..
We are well into the program, getting out is going to be bloody!
After gettin this far, you don't think they will just give in, do ya???

That's what the US Army "Reeducation camps" (their own words) are for..
Funny, that is what the Nazis called their first camp, Dachau..
And don't forget the 1.6 billion new bullets, and 100s of millions of Bodybags..

The Corrupted System will protect itself.. Even unto destroying it's own..
Just like the Bolsheviks, and the Nazi's did... Tyrannies always do!

Nazi Germany had the "enabling acts", we have the NDAA.. Indefinite
detention in the new American Dachau, with no court judge or jury..
Samey Same..

All someone has to do, is add up the indicators, picture is clear...
UGLY PICTURE TOO, that most people don't have the courage to face..

I've seen the news story about the Soviet Minister sent to Cuba to get the nuclear weapons back and Castro throwing a hissy-fit.  The story says ALL nuclear weapons were removed from Cuba and sent by sea back to the USSR in Devember 1962.

I'm not all that convinced.

Many from my generation believe that all the Cubans did was negotiate a deal where the majority got sent back and that Castro was placated with a few--that had been backed into caves to avoing U2 overflight/recon missions.  Of course, unless they were 100% shielded--they'd be rusting hulks in sea-mist air and worthless by now.

I remember this also I was 9. My folks were worried mostly my Ma. We had bomb drills at school every day that week. I remember my Dad saying that it was because of the Bay of Pigs and Kennedy's failure to support the invasion of Cuba in 61 and the missile crisis was a result of that. Kennedy pulled missiles out of Turkey to get the Russians to agree to withdraw the missiles in Cuba. This incident also made it's way into the conspiracy theories crowd as to part of why Kennedy was assassinated as a lose cannon feared by our intelligent community. Most of these books are crazy but still interesting to read.

The Russians removed the missiles first than the Americans removed the Jupiter missiles a year later.

Kennedy was playing the political game with the voters, in the UK we remember Joseph Kennedy and his pro Hitler stance. :old:

RngFnder, you need to get your dopamine levels checked. Seriously man.

As for the rest, I don't remember it but my parents did here in Ireland. They thought it was over. In retrospect it was probably wasn't as close to nuclear war as was believed at the time.

But at the time it was a scary moment and one can only wonder how the world would turn out if it had gone nuclear at that time.

Begorrah you're right. Have you any idea how much a box of Lucky Charms costs on this side of the Atlantic. At least ten bucks! No wonder I'm paranoid!
