Dads dell dimention 3000 wont power on
« on: October 12, 2012, 11:51:14 PM »
My dads pc wont power on. We have power going to the tower and there is a green light on the mother board next to the power switch wire that connects to the motherboard, but nothing else is turning on. The computer was just working fine earlyer today we got a new desk, and went to switch everything around. The tower was powered down correctly.

Sometimes PCs will give you clues when they can't communicate to you via the monitor:

Are there any beeps from the system when you try to power on?  If so, whats the exact pattern, in short / long beeps?

Look closely at the back of the PC near the on-board ports.  Are there any small green, amber or red LED lights lit after you power on?  What exactly is the pattern of the LEDs?

Dell's support site has good online documentation for what the beep codes and LED patterns indicate.
You can look up the manuals for your particular machine by the Dell service tag, or by the model number.

If the computer won't boot after you moved it, go through all the cables and components inside the computer to make sure they're securely attached. Especially VGA display cards were prone to moving and causing the computer to fail to boot.

Power supply (agree with the others who said power supply)

And you can change it in 5 to 10 minutes. Get one that is rated higher in watts.
