Big Gun Splash Color
« on: October 13, 2012, 02:43:17 PM »
IRL - large caliber ship guns included dye of various colors so that shell splashes could be differentiated when multiple ships were shooting at the same target.   I wouldn't mind seeing something like that implemented here - perhaps YOUR gun splashes show up with a red or blue tinge to differentiate them from the other guys shots?  In CV groups when you get into a gun battle with multiple cruisers, it would assist in being able to correct your shots.

  For most people the sky is the limit.  For a pilot the sky is home.

IIRC, smoke trails were added so you could track your rounds. Really not nessecary, but its cool.

I fail to see why you would want a shell-splash from an AA round landing in the ocean to be dyed.

I could make it bigger, kind of like this 10000000^e92568972980576280576827560892568902756892075134790618934761345179346189067. In reality that number would be close to 1 octillion (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) multiplied by itself 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 times.

Numbers are a big thing. A very big thing indeed.

They were usually assigned a single color to be used, not various colors for each large caliber gun the ship had.  For example, below are were the colors assigned to Iowa class BBs for the artillery observers to determine which rounds were fired but which ship.

Iowa = Orange
New Jersery = Blue
Missouri = Red
Wisconsin = Green

It would be interesting to find out what color was used for the cruiser we have in game.

That would probably also vary by ship.

I dont think the cruiser we have in the game ever existed. I would love to find out otherwise so please post evidence to the contrary.

Colors would probably vary but each ship would be assigned an individual color, not different colors for the various large caliber guns on the ship.
