Man Fires Veteran for Being “Disabled Veteran”
« on: October 23, 2012, 09:16:47 PM »
Jonathan Moreno earns the title of “Worst Person in the World” today – and why do we bestow such an honor on this lucky individual? Moreno it seems, is being sued by a former employee at the New Life Fitness World gym in Lexington after he was fired by Moreno for being a Disabled Veteran.

The former employee, Jonathan Brown, was a Marine that suffered wounds in service to our nation, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, that left him with a disability to his vision. The disability required him to go to the VA for treatment. It seems that Moreno felt that his needing to attend medical appointments just wasn’t working out, despite Brown making up the time he was missing, and fired him stating his being a disabled veteran as the reason.

To make matters worse, Brown has recently had to put his home up for sale as a result of his sudden loss of employment.

Never before have I seen such a blatant assault against a veteran by someone who has done nothing but reap the freedom that veterans have paid for in blood. This disrespectful little toejam really makes my blood boil.

The owner of New Life Fitness claims that the reason for Brown’s firing is something other than what Moreno wrote, and apparently they are refuting that.

:headscratch:  that's not even a troll, you really believe that crap?  Bet dollars to doughnuts that story is omitting half the facts or just sensationalizing whatever facts are available

Lost count of the amount of BS stories like this I've seen and heard over the years, if anything those articles are the troll, not  me :)

An effective troll that never fails to get people real riled up = veteran being discriminated against

Edit: I just read the wistv article, there is a brilliant piece of journalism in there, implying that the stated reason for dismissal was because he is a disabled vet WITHOUT specifically saying it. Because that would be libel.

It's too much effort to copy and paste on my phone but take a look and see if you can spot it

That's the media in a nutshell these days, and it really makes me sad that people fall for it everytime, hook , line and sinker

I honestly thought you were just being a troll. I couldn't be bothered to read the stories. My "outrage" would accomplish nothing so why be "outraged."

All the way at the bottom they seem to have a full copy, but still nothing usefull after disabled veteran welcom to a full on ADA enema for that company. The judge will roll laughing at any defense given that document was signed by all. They better toss the GM who approved it too. They would lose their defense case even in NH which is a right to work state, meaning you can be fired at any time without reason, but I assure you, you had better have a reason every time. They cannot win they will pay through every available orifice no matter what they say was the reason now.

i see what there's 2 codes on that page.  the gm did make a big mistake by writing disabled veteran, he should have only written the codes.  btw the gm doesnt make a decision of firing a store manager without approval from higher ups.  the gm doesnt work there anymore as he "quit" I bet anything it was because of that mistake.

and this is another reason why you should always file an application for familly leave when you need time away from work to take care of your own illness.

This happens a lot. Years ago I got fired on my first day after I told the boss that I would need 2-3 days off in a month because i was getting carpal tunnel surgery. then she told me to get my job back I would need a doctors note. So brought in the note after the surgery and never heard from her again. The moral of the story is never be honest with your employer about your health. Its none of there business unless you need some sort of accommodation to do your job.
