Maps maps maps

It`s been asked hundreds of times,if not thousands.Don`t think I have ever seen a response from HTC.Yeah yeah build and submit, don`t know how. HTC please give a response as to why you guys don`t make new maps for us.There`s plenty of work for scenerios, which is great but they aren`t used nearly as much as a new MA map would be.

As far as I know HTC hasn't made a map since the original ones. Players make all of them. There are manuals available to learn how to make them.

The Terrain Team makes maps specifically for special events...because that is what they are supposed to do.

From what I understand it is a tedious process to make a map suitable for the MA (not to say SE maps are easier) and only a handful of people have produced them.

Some great new maps have been made by certain dedicated players, they're just not being approved and added to the rotation.

I can understand HTC not having the manpower to provide us with new maps themselves (they're working hard on giving us 2 new planes a year - if we're lucky -  and some graphics upgrades to bring the game up to 2005 standard)

But it would be great if they could prioritise the back and forth testing/fixing/approval process with the map designers like Greebo in order to get some fresh stuff in the MA

The scenario maps are smaller and custom made maps. They don't have to have the same elements that the MA maps do and so are easier to make.

While HTC hasn't said.... to my knowledge..... why they don't make more maps, Hitech has said that "if he hired someone just to do maps the first thing he would do is give them a bunch of other projects to do first." From this we can guess that they have far more projects than they do have people to do them.

I've messed around with the map maker a few times and to build a MA map is a very time consuming, laborious under taking. If I remember right the old AKDesert map (big pizza) was done by a number of the AK's and it still took them over 6 months to do.

We have a decent set of maps now, the issue is play is becoming stale on them as everyone plays them the same way each time. Changing the maps is almost like building a new one, however there are settings on each map that can be tweaked that can change game play. Hardening buildings to slow the captures down, changing the percentages needed for white flags, and win the war parameters. Maybe some of the maps could be tweaked to have the hang on a bit longer and new ways to fight on them would be found.

Yeah, when I started work on the map I'm making (working on it here and there), I figured on at least 300 work hours, given that I wanted to do a bunch of new things, like rivers between spawn points, quadruple spawn battles.

One of the coolest things, in my opinion though, will be bases and the spawns into them being separated by water, and connected by causeways, or bridges.... or not at all. Would be interesting to need an LVT to take a base when you're not off a CV.

But yeah, point is its ludicrously time consuming.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

I tried to make a map, I spent over 100 hours slaving over it only to have the editor crash time and time again after it. It worked fine until a certain point, I just gave up on trying to use it again.
Not like my crummy bellybutton map would be used anyway, but I couldn't skin aircrafts, i figure maybe I could submit a map and it go through, however its hopeless.

I actually kind of like the TE, and am having good results. I recently started (re-started) working on a map for the MA; I made one last year for the AvA. The editor performs pretty good for me.

Perhaps the crashes you having is due to resource starvation while adding all the objects and terrain elements in the TE...your computer might be teetering on the edge of barely enough memory or horsepower to use the editor.

My pc is barely not even 8 months old, I-7 overlocked with 20 GB ram with twin 2.5TB Raptor drives raided, I can run every and any game on Full graphics on a 30inch monitor and duel geforce 580's without losing a drop of frame rates, yet Editor crashes on click.
Yeah its clearly served of not enough horse power or memory.

TE hasn't crashed once for me, on my flying machine or my older desktop with only 2 gig SDRAM.  Just loads slower.

your right though it does take many hours to perfect an MA map.  Would love to see Greebo's completed one thrown in.   :aok

:airplane: Greebo has made one of the finest looking maps that I have seen and I think it would be a great replacement map for the "Pizza" map, which is OK, but have never seen any place on earth that looks like it!

A winter map (even with green trees), or a East Front map of the Steppes (few trees and tan/earth tone vs green), or a desert map from North Africa would be SWEET!

I had commissioned an acquaintance of mine to have one of his college classes design and make a winter map for the MA's, evidently they had started on it but abandoned the project for reasons unknown to me.
