krusty nobody disagrees with you that having a bit more ram while doing video editing is bad. what they're saying is that hving more than 8 for the average gamer is a waste and buying more than 16 just to protect them against future upgrades is not a good idea. any future upgrades that will come up that will actually use more than 8 other than video editing or some work related projects arent happening in the near future.
the older computers came with 1 or at most 2 gigs of ram is because most were sold to people who didnt know. I thought I had a good deal when I spent 1600 on a computer that I thought was top of the line with 1 gig of ram and 250 gb hd. then I came here to the boards and realized that I could have gotten a kick donut computer for 1/2 the price. so I upped the ram to 3. then I traded that computer to an e8400 with 8 gb of ram then 2 years ago I upgraded to my current with 16 gb of ram. I couldn't transfer my ram from the e8400 to the sandy bridge as it wasnt compatible.
I do video editing like you do and found out that 16 is more than enough as I dont do it for a living. as for when I play games I dont even use 4 gb of ram playing and having netflix on one screen while on the other I am browsing the bb.
