Smoke for the PT Boats
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:13:43 AM »
In RL, Pt Boats operated mostly at night for stealth reasons. We don't have night in the Late
War Arena. If Pt boats were able to drop out allot of smoke and hide their position, they would stay alive, get allot closer to the enemy
CV's and be a REAL threat when they launch torpedoes or rockets. The torpedos
are really slow relative to the Fleet and Pt Boats. There is almost no chance of making a successful strike
unless the Pt Boat gets really close. If you launch a torpedo at full stop you can pass the torpedo
in a matter of minutes. If the fleet turns away they can easily out run any torpedo. Again, you have to get close and
catch them by surprise. Cruiser and CV guns take out a pt boat in seconds when manned gunners see the Pt's icons.

Smoke would also allow the Pt Boats to hide and evade enemy planes.
Since they were fabricated with plywood they cannot take any hits or
they blow up real quick. I think the use of Pt Boats would be enhanced
if this feature was added to the game. Smoke is sometimes effective for tanks
coming off a camped spawn and it would get more AH'ers to use the Pt Boats
if their survivability is increased.

I can imagine a pt boater putting out smoke in several areas, then hiding in one.
Ten minutes of smoke would work.

Cheers !

It seems to me that the first bit of smoke you put out would only serve to mark yourself as a target for those gunners.

You are thinking about those little smoke canisters tanks put out.....we would
need BIG smokes screens with measurable altitude and circumference.
The Pt Boat would need to put out lots of them like they did in WWII.

We dont have night which is the primary environment for the smoke generators to aid in the escape of PTs. Smoke will never really help you on ingress.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

+1 for Smoke on the PT Boats.

I have wanted this for a long time.   Smoke would be useful in screening CV groups, and could also be used to screen LVTs as they head for the beach.
I know the old argument against is was that people's video cards could not handle it, but virtually every new machine put out for the last few years has had decent video built in.  I don't think that really applies any more.  Further, any serious gamer is going to have a video card that can handle the smoke.

My grandfather was in pacific in WWII and served on pt boats. It is main reason I use them. While he wAs still alive I have him even play AH in one and he loved it. I would love to see more pt boat skins and options.
