That 340 could run at high revs all day long.

yes it could....I tested it :D

1500 miles in 18 hrs.....(doing 120+most of the time)

3000 miles in 68 hours.....

6 years of testing and the only thing I "broke" was a torsion bar out in Arizona(besides crashing it once)....the transmission was bad when I bought it, didn't have 1st gear, yet I still drove it cross country and back on that 904....once I put in the 727 :O

Stock R/Ts are running as good as 12.6 in the quarter with stickies on the rear.  Tha'ts a 345 cu. in engine without a supercharger.
GE can back that up.  Now......I wonder what the new 6.4 Hemi SRT at 470HP will do (the 394) against a factory supercharged car???
2012s can't be tuned yet.  2011 tuning just became available at SEMA.

The same old same old 40 year discussions LOL.  All I know is....Hemi has been the standard bearer since the mid 60s.
I do know that at top end the Hemis will keep on going when the Mustangs and Camaros have reached their limit.

These discussions are always fun and biased.  LOL Next year something else

First question always...."Have a Hemi in it?"

And may I remind you I spanked an SS Camro in my widdle old R/T.  426 HP badged under the SS badge on  the fenders.
With my widdle old 345 cu. in Hemi and a heavier car with a 6 speed versus his auto.  Camaro was a beautiful car too!

I like all brands....but I love MOPARS.  Take a look at the NHRA classes....you'll see MOPARS at the top.

"Flying mile" is done on the salt because of the lack of traction.

I don't know of any timing association that does "standing mile" on the salt.

If anybody wants to certify a "standing mile" on the salt, I will gladly pack up the tag/heuer timing I use to certify records in my capacity as an officer of a "standing mile" timing association.

At this time, it is prohibitively expensive so we work primarily with RCR and team audi's lemans arm.

We are working on using the category definitions that SCTA uses and applying them to runway racing since some records are soft and might be beatable on either our 2 mile or 3 mile venue.

Not trying to debate you about it. Just telling you what I watched them do. Run 1 mile from a standing start on the Bonneville salt.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Stock R/Ts are running as good as 12.6mustangs are doing nearly that untouched...as delivered. slomaros(couldn't resist, lol) are getting into the 12.8/12.9's as delivered. neither of those are supercharged. in the quarter with stickies on the rear.  Tha'ts a 345 cu. in engine without a supercharger.

2012s can't be tuned yet.  2011 tuning just became available at SEMA.i think i've seen reports of the srt's running in the 12.3/12.5 range.

The same old same old 40 year discussions LOL.  All I know is....Hemi has been the standard bearer since the mid 60s.
I do know that at top end the Hemis will keep on going when the Mustangs and Camaros have reached their limit.you're right and wrong at the same time on this. you're right, because the fords are governed to 155 from the factory. i think the slomaros are governed too, but not sure.

These discussions are always fun and biased.  LOL Next year something else stop fooling yerself!! next year, we'll all be saying the same stuff, and you know it! :old:

Cap I couldn't agree more.  Bunch of us car guys having a few Beers and bantering.  Nothing like being around a bunch of car guys.
We all have the same thing in common, the love of american muscle.  I can't believe that started about 50 years ago.  Boy......
time sure does fly by fast.  All my friends in the mid to late 60s to early 70s had a variety of american muscle from Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers
Chargers, Vettes and one car you don't hear much about anymore.....the AMX.  What a sweet car that was!  Was fun then and still is fun now.
Thanks to Ford and the Mustang.....the debate and the fun continues.  Without ford reintroducing the new Mustang, there would be no Camaro
or Challenger!

for me, the cool thing is i get to live it in the present this time. i was born in 62, so although i've worked on, driven, souped up, destroyed, mangled, and mutilated all of the cool 60's stuff.....i didn't get to actually "be there" in the hayday. this time around, thanks to gm, chrysler, and ford, i do.
when i was a kid, i REALLY wanted a boss302. every so often, i keep thinking i should've held out, waited a bit, and not bought my gt, so i could save a bit extra to get my boss. then i go out, fire her up, listen to that sweet rumble, and realize i made the right choice.

the sad part is that in 20 years they may be talking about electric hot rods(i just got the shivers typing that, lol)

Even Pontiac had a nice one in the GTO, love the 67. Did they drop the ball on that one when they brought that name back.

Ya.....they dropped it bigtime Fugi.  They called a box a GTO.  It was a very feeble attempt by Pontiac to sell a box with 4 wheels.
Pontiac lost their way somewhere.  They were a forerunner in muscle.  I have no idea what happened to Pontiac to cause the end
of that brand.

I've always liked GTOs........one of my best friends Robbie Saare had one, 69 with a 400 in it.  Beautiful car.  I've always been partial
to the 389 with tri-power. Another buddy of mine Denny had a 69 also....convertible.  Dark green with white interior.  Absolutely gorgeous!  Remember the
Tach on the hood? Both of them had the tach on the hood.  I at that time had a Plymouth Sport Fury Conv. with a 383 and 4.33 rear end.  What a great time in automobile history.
Mustang had the Mach I,  Camaro had the RS/SS.  Hemis, 427 Chevys and Fords.....my favorite Ford engine was the 428 Cobra.  I thought
the 428 was better then both the ford 427 and 429.  You'll probably think I'm crazy I thought the chevy 327 was their best engine.  More HP per cu/in and reliable.
Even Olds got into the muscle car business with the 442....not really fast but quick enough for a luxury muscle car.  Buick had the Gran Sport etc.  Great days!

The 406 and 427 engines are the kings of the ford fe big blocks.

I would trade my 1967 high nickel content block "cobra lemans" trim 428 for any complete running 406 or 427 regardless of trim level in a millesecond.

Anyone know how to turn off the iphone5 autocorrect?

It turns eloquent and "science correct" prose into the bs that passes as English.
