Three screens with nVidia SLI'ed video card not working...
« on: November 02, 2012, 12:44:47 AM »
Just like a previous topic, I'm running two SLI nVidia GTX 550 Ti's 1Gb with 3 24" HD monitors.  When I run the nVidia setup utility, it seems I cannot span my monitor size across all three monitors - just 1920x1080 per monitor. I'm also running Win7 64bit 16Gb.

Something is telling me I should of kept with AMD... :furious

Is there an app that will let me change my resolution to 5940x1080? Is there something that I'm missing?  This is completely stumping me.

I know it's not what you are asking for or about but...

I use the Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital edition at 3840x1024 (3x 1280x1024)

Max resolution support is 5760x1080 (3x 1920x1080).

It was easy to install, and has not given a lick of trouble in over 4 years.

Some of it's advantages include support for many games and applications that were not designed for wide-screen use, and bezel management.

Bezel management aligns the pixels at the edges of the displays so that when you pan left or right everything lines up and appears to the user as if you are looking out at the world thru a window. After a very short period of use, you don't even notice the bezels anymore.

I also use the Ergotron DS100 triple-monitor stand to hold the three monitors and their bezels in position in a smoothly curving arc.

Yep, there is extra cost involved...but it is worth it.

As the old saying goes...There is NO free lunch.

I guess you can't make Windows see your three monitors as one, at least you can't set the resolution to 5940x1080 directly. What you can do, is to setup your monitors so that only the primary one has all the icons, the two sharing only the background picture. Use "Extended display" instead of duplicating mode. This makes your displays work as one wide screen. When in AH, set the video setting to a resolution of 5940x1080.

What do you mean you cannot span to all three? Did you try:

NVIDIA Control Panel : 3D Settings : Configure SLI, PhysX, Surround : SLI Configuration : Activate All displays (should be an option for Surround Vision)

EDIT: After reading your post more closely:

Do you have all three monitors connected to their own DVI ports?
Did you install the SLI bridge?

That and the run through configuration should get it done.

did you install the sli bridge on the video cards?  one more thing nvidia gets picky about where to connect the monitors.  i Have 2 connected to the top video card and 1 on the bottom, but if I try it the other way it wont work.  also i cant connect using hdmi for more than 1 monitor for some reason.  and yet lawndart uses hdmi on all 3 ( think).

Yep - I installed the SLI bridge, and then I used the GPZ utility - confirmed, the SLI bridge is _NOT_ working. (sigh)

WTH.  I tried uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers - used Drive Cleaner pro.  Still no luck. :(

Any tips on how I can get my SLI 550TI's to connect properly?

In your Nvidia control panel, can you enable SLI?  Have you tried forcing it on using Nvidia Inspector?

Strange enough - my video cards are not recognizing they're SLI'ed and hence the driver doesn't pick it up.

Weird.

Chalenge - I'm using a 800W PSU that came with my case. It's a good one. :)

Maybe the bridge itself is defective? It could also be one of the cards is not seated well in the slot? There are only so many reasons that functional cards would fail. If you see only one card in the system (like semp indicated) that would be the last reason I thought of. It could be that the power plug from the PSU is not inserted fully or that the PSU end has backed out. You might also try reversing the bridge.

You didnt dedicate a card to PhysX did you? If you need that then toss in an 8800 if you have an available slot.

What type of MB do you have?  My z77 had to have an adional 6pin added to it so the other PCIe slots would work. Use 1 DVI connector in your top card and 2 in your bottom card, and on the nVidea control panel use auto for Phyx control.

ASUS P6P87. Found out today its not really SLI capable (at least that's what the guys at GURU3D.COM were saying).  There is a HYPERSLI hack - but I can't get it to work on my rig. :(

I guess I'll need a new mobo that is SLI - both slots at same speed. capable......
