I got nothing wrong with hunting or spear fishing, but I strongly frown upon the hunters who hunt the semi-domesticated deer/does that regularly frequent Mrs. Willson's handouts and garden on the edge of town (0 out of 10 for form and skill).

oh so I'm not an expert carp fisherman despite all the goldfish I have caught after purchasing them from the pet store?  ;)

I agree.. The diver did this just to get a reaction... a 'piss off the hippies' action. He knew that this spot had animals that had frequently 'interacted' with humans... its like killing the squirrels at the park that come up to you and beg for food (its analogy time). speak of which... dungeness crab season just started (last Saturday).

You are correct, however the kid caught it in an area very frequently visited by recreational divers and these residential octopi have become semi-domesticated (use to and not afraid of any human interaction and presence, unlike those in the wild), and when the brave hunter was confronted by some of them returning to shore, he didn't help by elaborating in a suposedly provacative manner (IE: claiming it was a female guarding a clutch of eggs, both likely blatant lies as it apears to be A- strong and healthy and B- a male ) which then escolated predictabley when the story hit a popular recrational divers blog.

Ahh rgr....didnt see where they had become semi domesticated...I would agree then thats just wrong. Like fishing in a hatchery.

Im a hunter and a fisherman, Regarding your comment about Mrs Willsons handouts, I couldnt agree more.  I have a group of deer that are regulars at my apple trees and in my (dam) garden...But I would never think of hunting them.Heck, i have one doe that i know has come back 4 yrs straight..she has a bum leg, and gives birth to triplets every year ive had her around..... Ill sit on my porch and watch the little ones play grab as/s for hours  lol.

If the octopi had become semi domesticated then shame on the people who made these wild animal not fear humans.  No good can come of a wild animal that does not fear man.

The "nature loving hippie" types usually do more harm than good because they have no clue about real nature. It my not be real sporting when Bambi walks right up to you, but it sure makes putting meat on the table a lot easier.

Given how smart octopuses/octopi/octopodes (pick your plural form, there isn't consensus on it) are it would be difficult for recreational divers to go down to see them without the animals losing some/all fear of humans.  Octopuses/octopi/octopodes are extremely smart for an invertebrate, perhaps smarter than dogs.

baby octopus is great, but it seems to get tougher the bigger it gets. eating something that size must be like chewing escalope of 50-yr old suspension bushes :uhoh
