There is no check box for the sortie type. It is a button and it must be highlighted in order to set the sortie type.
If you send us an email and do not get a response within two business days (typically it is one business day, but it depends on what time of day you send the email), then we did not get the email, or we did respond and your ISP is blocking email from us, or sending it directly to a spam folder.
If you use Yahoo, it can take up to a week to get any response from us as Yahoo deliberately delays email delivery from us and then they usually put it in a spam folder. They may also delay sending us the email for up to a week as well.
You do not want to use Yahoo if you wish to use email to contact us.
The "attack/fighter" sortie option is saved locally to a file in the game installation folder. If your files are marked as read-only or protected by some type of security software, the game will not be able to change the sortie type option. I see this type of thing happening with Norton and McAfee quite often.
