Really want to get a PPL

Its something I totally want to do, life goal actually. Its so so expensive unfortunately. A 45 hour package with fees, test and examination will cost the best part of £8000 in a cessna 150. Doing it bit by bit with a lesson a month will be less painful, but looks like its the only way i'll afford it. Looks like a lifestyle change is in order, maybe sell some body parts

For what you're wanting to fly, a lot less.

The cessna 150 is about the cheapest to learn in. If it has wings, engine, seat etc. I'll learn in anything if it gets me in the sky.

Check first to see if your license will be accepted on your side of the pond first! Saving money is great but if the fees and check rides necessary to get a license where you are after getting the US version will add up to the same or more you won't have saved anything.

Not for nothing but cessna 150s can be had for about $20,000 US. Once you get the license and return to the UK you will not want to be a renter. Especially when you consider that over in Germany a 172 that is 30 years old goes for $450 per hour.

minke - paying lesson by lesson is the way to go - it is less painful.

It's hard to determine what the final cost will be. Some folks catch on quicker than others, so will save more money. I got my PPL in 37 hours or so. I have a friend who got his in 80-something. Everyone is different.

That does sound a bit steep, and with conversion rates, blah blah blah...  why not take a 1-2 month vacation to the States here and still earn it cheaper?

Usually tell people to budget for 13,000 just as a starting point. The worst thing you can have happens is ti run out of money

I have been paying $130 per hour in a piper warrior, and $40 an hour ground school.

If you go full immersion and do it quickly, it will cost less.

I got mine in 5 weeks.
