Corky in that poster that is a 92 Squadron Spitfire. Is 92 squadron available for the scenario?

Nope on 92.  North Africa Spit.  It had the Stuka going down so it worked :)

Fencer, would it be possible to have a small number(squad size) of 109G-2's available for defencive operations. The 109F is woefully undergunned in the anti-bomber role. At the time that this scenario takes place, 109F's in the field had access to the R-6 20mm cannon gondolas - which our 109F's do not have. The G-2 was already in service at this time with some Jagdgeschwaders in other theaters - Jg 2 being the first in April 1942. Also I/Jg 53 transferred in to the G-2 after leaving the Med. theater in July '42. In my opinion, the addition of the 109G-2 will bring balance to the only unbalanced aspect of this setup.

Those B24s will be a very tough nut to crack for the Luftwaffe. Bostons could be used instead, but their cruising speed is going to make interception very difficult for the 109s.

Not that my opinion matters, but I think Devil has a good idea, but it should be limited (or force them to carry gondolas) as the 109G2 does have some performance benefits over the 109F.

I agree.

Aces High B24's will just walk away from the 109's and all the Luft will get is a futile chase.

Defense against the B24s?

In your wright-up on page one you mention B-24's hitting Sicily.

Spoiling raids upon Axis airfields on Sicily were laid on with strike aircraft from Malta and Liberators from the Middle East.

Granted, the numbers of 24's will probably also be small - around 6 sets I imagine. These bombers represent a significant problem for 109's with a single 20mm cannon. It was precisely this problem that prompted the creation of the R-6 gondola kit, and they were readily available during the timeframe for this scenario.

Ignoring this issue would result in many lost 109's and few, if any, 24's destroyed. The amount of 109F's needed to properly deal with the Liberator would be so great that if they were used that way, there would not be enough fighters available for other tasks. It may be worth while to ignore the 24's completely depending on the point value of the ground objects. If the object value is too high, then the Axis CO is caught in a "catch 22", forcing to spread assets so thin that no objective could be realistically completed. Thus this is a gross imbalance beyond just plane vs. plane.

Just some food for thought.  :salute
