Androids are a good route to go based off what I have heard from folks I know.
Google's Nexus 7 isn't a bad choice either.

I own the galaxy tab 2 7.0  it was 200 bucks last week at best buy.  best money i spent.  I use my rooted droid as a hot spot.  also had the tablet rooted and just for the heck of it.  what I like about it is that it doesnt have much "bloatware"  my phone came with a lot more than that.

the sound is awesome and the picture is great.

Personally, I went with the Asus Transformer with the detachable keyboard, and I have to say, I love it. There's nothing I've needed from it that it won't do, with the added bonus of the keyboard to make typing easier, and the USB port so I can hook my external harddrive up to it to watch movies, etc.

Using ipad2 myself. Haven't had any problems with it. I got it originally to use just in the cockpit and for a few games, but it has since replaced my PC for all of my Internet browsing. I have the 32gb wifi only version.

Whatever you get, the gps won't work as they all use wifi for their positioning unless it's a 3/4g serviced tablet. However, you can pick up external gps' for your tablet that will work. However, you would be better off just getting an actual photo.

You can get an iPad 2 pretty cheap now too.

Apparently the reviews are saying the new Nexus that just came out is the best android to get right now.

I would pick Android over Apple any day of the week.  Dont have to worry about the market restrictions of Apple.

Just bought a nabi2. Never had a tablet before, then its not mine either. Been setting it up and don't know how to compare to others, but it seems pretty good. The nabi2 is the same as a google nexus except the resolution. The nexus is 1200 by 800 and the nabi is 1200 by 600 I think.

I paid 129.00 for the nabi at wally world last thursday. Can't stand wally world , but for the price saving of 70.00.

Ironically prices have gone up since last month DOH! I wanted the Ipad2-3 or the mini, cough then the Galaxytab2 10.1. All 400$ and over now so the 7.o does look good for the money. Perhaps I'll check out the nexus also. Ugh, can't find the exact model I want without getting frustrated and changing websites.

Me too. Had it almost a year and absolutely love it. I had to return it after 6 months for a defective camera ("green screen" of death) but other than that, can't live without it. Not only is having the ability to type on a keyboard (vs Glass), expansion slots for SD and micro SD, full sized USB port nice, but that extra 8 hours of battery life is wonderful.  I'm connected to it via Foxfi on my Android phone. Neither the phone nor the tablet needs to be 'rooted'. One data plan, two hardware...and I can still take calls while tethered to the tablet while traveling down the road at 70 mph. (This assumes I'm surfing as a passenger! LOL!)

I  quickly undock from the keyboard when I head to bed to read books.  :rock

When I show this tab to the iPad phanbois they get really mad. LOL! Apple is way behind the technology curve for hardware these days.
