I hear ya BMW about the depreciation. I'm a Honda guy. I run a Honda store in Phoenix Arizona. I am priveledged to be able to buy them at such a low price that after one year, I sell them for what I paid for it. Honda allows me to purchase one bike per year at 10% under dealer cost. That's a big reason I get a new bike every year, and I take really good care of them so they ar "as new" when I sell them. Most of the time I sell them to friends, and they actually end up with a good deal too. Currently I am on a CBR600RR. It has a birthday in February, and I have to admit, Im not sure what I want next. Im thinking the New CB1100 (standard bike), to be different. What would you get if you were me BMW ? FYI, I'm 56 years old and was a roadracer for 20 years so I do like the speed.
Here's a link to the CB1100:

I'm near your age and after a bad accident in 2002 and a life threatening illness in 2007 I had to change my ride perspective a bit. I have never really been into the speed part, I have always been a tour rider. I want the power to have fun, but I also want the comfort, so being leaned over a bike all day was not what I would consider comfort. A couple of years ago I got the itch for a different bike and I wanted to try a Sports Tourer. I didn't want to spend the money on a brand new one in case I didn't like it, so I settled for a low mileage 2003 Councours (C-10).
In the stock form I liked it, but it was uncomfortable for me to ride all day. After doing some major farkleing, Russell Seat, aftermarket suspension, fork springs, GL1200 handlebars and so on, I now have what I believe is a perfect touring bike. I now call my Concours my mini Goldwing. I have the handling and basic speed of a sports tourer, but I sit upright and can ride all day. With the 7 gallon tank, I don't have to make every stop at a gas station. I do have the Trike and BMW that I ride, but the Concours has turned out to be my favorite ride.
I like the CB1100, and have been taking a hard look at it. I don't like the gas tank size, in my type of riding 3.9 gallons is just not enough. I love the ergonomics of the bike, it looks like a refined old CB750, which I had back in the seventies and put over a 100,000 miles on. It was my all time favorite bike. I haven't found how many ponies it is putting out or it torque output, but having some experience with Honda's, I am sure it would be enough for me. If you are into the speed, it could be a disappointment to you. I love the old look, and if it had a bigger tank, I would give it some major consideration.
