Clipboard question (newbie)
« on: November 14, 2012, 04:56:35 PM »
I can't seem to find an answer with a search. I know that the Esc key brings up and hides the clipboard. I was flying today and couldn't bring up the clipboard with the Esc key. I was able to follow a friendly back to the airfield but still couldn't bring up the clipboard so I had to Ctrl/Alt/Delete my way out of AH. What was I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.

BBStacker,

did this only occure once, or has it done this multiple times to you?  About 4 or 5 months back I had a similiar issue but it never did it again.

It's done it several times. Usually I can bring it up a couple times during the flight out but then it suddenly stays hidden. I'd say it has done it about 4 times since I started AH a couple days ago.

  Kit,

When you say you had to ctrl/alt/delete to get out of AH,was it because you had no cursor?

Also are you using a joystick or flying with the mouse?   The reason I ask these questions are that the mouse can be toggled to a controller with the keystroke "H",if you accidentally press H or type something without the text buffer open you can toggle the mouse to a controller and then it has no cursor function.

Just press H again and see if the cursor appears when you move the mouse.

Did you by chance have the view in zoom?  Using zoom can make it appear as tho the clipboard isnt there also.

It could be a glitch, you might be able to fix this with a reinstall of the game, however save a copy of your settings folder before you do a reinstall, then you can copy all your views and commands without having to redo them manually again.

    hope that helps.

Hi morfiend,

I had to ctrl/alt/delete because I couldn't bring up the clipboard to "quit"

I fly using the joystick so I do see the cursor. I did notice that the clipboard comes and goes with the Esc key UNTIL I bring up the radio box. If the clipboard is up when I bring up the radio box, then the only way to get rid of it is to minimize it. Once it's minimized, I can't bring it back with the Esc key.....which makes me ctrl/alt/delete to get out of the sim.

The only thing I have done is dump Murdr's head positions into the settings folder. I'll do a reinstall if I need to but I'll wait till I hear back from you.

don't minimize the clipboard. Hit enter to clear the radio box, then hit ESC to close the clipboard, then open your radio box again. I'm assuming that your using the "-" button on the clipboard to minimize it. The + and - buttons are to resize it. If you minimize it so small with the - button you can use the + button to bring it back up to size, because it is too small to find.

If not, ignore everything I just typed  :D

ok....I may have a corrupt installation. When I can't use the Esc key.....I just figured out I can't use any other key. The plane is flying but the keyboard isn't functioning. When I ctrl/alt/delete to get out, I am getting a windows error message that the aceshigh.exe isn't responding. I managed to copy the details:

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   APPCRASH

I think the easiest thing to do is a reinstall. I'll post this error in the technical forum if it continues after the reinstall.

I'm going with this answer.  I believe it has something to do with your radio being opened.  Close the radio and all your keys should work...

Thanks Coogan.....and that's what I'll do for the time being. But, if I remember right 5 years ago, I used to have the radio up all the time. I'll go back to reading all the instructions again.

After fussing with this for a while, I did as you and Coogan suggested and that seems to work. I'm a little puzzled....I didn't read anywhere nor did I realize that one cannot have the radio on continuously and bring up and/or hide the clipboard at the same time?

Thanks for the help gentlemen; I do appreciate it.

Got it fixed !!!!!!!

Someone on the tech forum had a similar problem with a different key today and Skuzzy offered this advice: Go into Options->Controls->Map Keys and use the "Fix Key" button.  Follow the instructions it provides.  If it is a scan code issue, that will fix it.

So, I got into AH and started flying. I already had the clipboard up so I brought up the radio box. The clipboard would not hide with the Esc key so I followed the suggestion Skuzzy wrote to someone else. As soon as I did that, the Esc key started to work and I could hide/bring up the clipboard with the radio box still up.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions....the more i read; the more I'm learning

Glad to see you solved the issue, had I known you were leaving the radio buffer open all the time we could have saved you that reinstall, sorry about that!

Day late and a dollar short but remember you can always clcik on the clipboard with your mouse to bring it up.

Thank you gentlemen for the help.

Somewhere I read to print out a book for references and I'm doing that. I'm watching a lot of the videos that other members have made. But mostly I go out and learn by getting myself blown out of the sky. I like this sim and over time and with a lot of practice I hope to contribute by being a good opponent.

This is fun  :salute
