Not when it comes to Amazon and other online vendors. I get 40% of the profit on any book sold, but only orders that go directly to the publisher are calculated at the full retail price. Amazon gets their books at wholesale prices, which if I recall correctly are 30% of retail. My royalties are calculated at that price, so Amazon can charge whatever they want, I already got paid.
So while I'm only getting 30% the royalties I would if everyone ordered through the publisher, I still encourage everyone to use Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other large online vendors. This is because those vendors are well known and trusted, and people can bundle my book with anything else they sell to get free shipping. Plus, people are used to paying around $7.00-$10.00 for a new paperback, a discount that only vendors will offer. Amazon obviously received a lot of orders for
The Fox and the Eagle, as they don't discount anything unless the sales numbers justify it.
So in the big picture, this is good news for me.
