During his time at home, Wade spoke to his brother Oran about some of his experiences in the desert war. Oran later recalled hearing how on one mission Lance had become separated from his flight by three Me-109s and in a swirling low-level dogfight had shot one down and damaged another. He reportedly lost the third by flying down a desert gully. There had apparently been no witnesses to confirm what had happened, however. He also told Oran that enemy pilots seemed to have recognized his aircraft during the last half of his tour and started avoiding him. That may have been thanks to the fact that Wade's Hurricane was distinctive — decorated with his own design, a fighting cock, or rooster, standing in front of an American flag. That same aggressive-looking bird would later be adopted as the emblem of the U.S. Army Air Forces' 4th Fighter Group, which included many former Eagles in its ranks.


Not anything conclusive but at least may have some validity.

The thing that bothers me about that profile is the lack of a squadron code. It would be highly unusual for any combat aircraft not to have either a squadron code or in the case of a wing commander, a personal code. It gives me the impression that the artist read that story, found out Wade flew BP186 and then just left off the squadron code because he did not know it.

Just taking a quick look before I head off to work there is a few exceptions I have found of lack of squadron codes.
Here is one for example granted a PR aircraft. I don't have enough time to post a few photos I have in some books.

Found an interview with another American who flew with 33 squadron on Youtube.

During the interview there is a few still shots of Hurricanes. About the 45 second mark there is a couple of MKIIC Hurricanes. The angle of that photo partially obscures the area where squadron markings would be. Can't tell for certain if there is any squadron markings or not.

Thanks for posting these Lyric. The Hurricane has probably the widest selection of different air force markings and colour schemes of any WW2 aircraft.

I've done a few extra skins that will be useful for scenarios; a desert and a BoF Hurri Mk I, also a desert, a SEAC and a Soviet (BM959 below) Mk II. I'll post some screenshots once the next version is out and I can fly them offline. I'll wait until other skinners have had a chance to look at it before starting any more though.

Cant tell you how excited I am about the Hurri update and that your beautiful skins will be on them. Love this plane.

I would greatly like to see this one, from the first page, done:
Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIc, KZ352/A-A, No. 1 Fighter Squadron Indian Air Force, Imphal, 1944. Ocean Gray/Dark Green/Medium Sea Gray scheme with white bands around wings, tailplane and fin; white codes and spinner.  Dark Blue/Light Blue roundels (15" diameter) in all six positions; red elephant badge, edged in yellow, under cockpit.

My wife is Indian and Hindu, thus my interest in it.  I do suspect the elephant should not be red, but rather bright orange.  Many of the idols to Ganesha that I have seen on my visits to India are painted bright orange in their entirety.
