why is the 75mm he better than the 76?
« on: December 07, 2012, 05:53:08 PM »
I was curious about using tanks to take down hangars so offline I tried a few tanks hitting the bomber hangar after pulling out the door of the vh.  The best tank in terms of time was the M4 75 or the M3 it took 16 rounds and 1 minute 4 seconds or so. The M4 76 was lousy, it took 27 rounds and 2 min 21 sec.  Also the firefly was pretty bad at 20 rounds 2 minutes 40.  The t34 85 took less rounds, 12, and was pretty fast at 1 min 25. the lVt did the job with 18 rounds in 1 min 11. The panzers were nothing to write home about and the range in the sights was only 2400. Can somebody explain why the 75 packs more punch than the 76 or the 17lb? Were they smaller projectiles with less explosive?

The 75mm has a more powerful HE round than the 76mm.  That is why the 75mm was selected over the 76mm gun for the M4.  It wasn't until combat experience showed the need for a gun with better AP ability that M4s with the 76mm were produced.  The 75mm continued in use as well due to its superior infantry support capability thanks the the better 75mm HE round.

The more powerful 76 mm and QF 17 needs stronger shells that survive the violent firing process. Thicker casings means less room for chemicals. A better HE round was developed for the 76 mm late in the war. I don't know what round is modeled.

True.

If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.
