Ism sorry Tunnel rat I fail to see how this would be preiceless even to a beginner. Isnt seeing your name in lights when you land acheivement enough? Or the fact that you know you did somehting, I dont see the point of more advertisement of doing what your supposed to do.

"AHHH MOTHERLAND!"  <-  Kill a B-29 with an I-16 rocket

Yeah, that's what I THOUGHT.

And no one said "name in lights" it's a personal goal and achievement, it doesn't need to spam world chat with HERRPPP!!!! 80HD CRASHED INTO THE RADAR TOWER 100 TIMES THIS TOUR!!

IM sorry I just dont see how an achievemnt/title system is useful in anyway. As you say  they are personal  then surely you can do this on your own without having it added to game? It would  be cool but not USEFUL in any other way besides a ego stroke.

As I stated, they are massively popular within the gaming community at large.  As I also stated, the idea is most likely going to be unpopular with the firmly entrenched grognards that currently rule the air, sea, and land in Aces High.

HOWEVER... in order to entice more cannon fodder to play, as well as to the enjoyment of MANY players new and old, an achievements system <--- In my mildly retarded opinion ---> would be a great addition in fleshing out the game as a whole...experience... in the same way that SOME people LIVE to GV, others derive GRAND enjoyment out of taking bases or foiling base takes, old schoolers tend to want to dogfight, and a select few are more than content to play forum-mako-shark, lurking in the depths only to pounce upon any perceived threat to their fragile online ecosystem they may or may not play anymore, I believe many players would very much enjoy obtaining various achievements, especially if they are fun.

Is it worth the time it would take to implement it?  That's not my call... and I honestly don't know, the fraction of users that post on the Wishlist aren't really a good indicator of the MA population though.

One thing I DO know is that if a system like this were to be implemented, here is what you will see:

1.  A certain subset of players that go absolutely bonkers in their quest to attain as many achievements as possible

2.  Another subset will decry the entire thing as lame, a waste, etc (the same that laugh at "cartoon medals")

3.  A smaller stealth sub-subset of group 2 will secretly strive to attain said achievements on the down low, and if called on it they will say it was not on purpose

4.  A great amount of players won't even know it exists unless it is used as a club to beat them over the head with (I.e., the 20% of scenario pilots that can't read the Arena Message)

5.  Lusche will have graphs and statistics on the whole affair within a week.

Anyway, barfypedia does a much better job of describing what it is:

"Achievements are included within games to extend the title's longevity and provide players with the impetus to more than simply complete the game but find all of its secrets. They are effectively arbitrary challenges laid out by the developer to be met by the player. These achievements may coincide with the inherent goals of the game itself, such as completing a level, with secondary goals such as finding secret power-ups or levels, or may also be independent of the game's primary or secondary goals, such as playing a certain number of times, viewing a video, beating a certain number of online opponents or completing a level in a certain amount of time. Certain achievements may refer to other achievements - many games have one achievement that require the player to have gained every other achievement."

Camelot Surprise - Sank a carrier with a PT Boat

Fallschirmjager - Captured a base with a C-47 while all Hangars were alive

Sigh, yet another great suggestion to Aces High. Yet those whom don't use it or deem it a waste of time to program comment.
I think this would be an excellent addition to the game, I see no reason for it to not be done. Not only that, it gives more purpose to Aces High. Example being on the map "Grinder", A30-A43/V29-V42. Or the map "sfma" A1-A19/A7-A37.  Each map has it's own "standard" where everyone goes if they want major action, because it is normally there. However, it does get old (at least for some of us, no I'm not hating or ranting, just giving an example of the norm).

I don't see how achievements would alter anything of Aces High or make it anything like the forever dreaded "Call of Duty" series. I think, along with Tunnelrat, that it will increase things to do in the game; as well as add new scenarios and giving some players initiative to try new things.

There is always a reason to do something. Perks are an incentive to some, Score to others, just the fact that "I did that" for some. Achievements are for others. Personally, I use Perks as a sort of "achievement" for me, to show that I did something. I don't use the Score system because I think it is flawed (as do many here), so I don't use it to "grade" my performance.  Some of you think perks are a waste, that is fine; I guess you're "all that" then :).

Achievements would do nothing but improve the game. They don't limit anything for players (so if you don't want to do them, you don't have to. And no one is going to force you to), if anything they give a challenge to the players (at least those whom aren't "all that").   Ex. Mark 5 vehicles in 1 sortie with a storch and land, or shoot down a plane with the 75mm of the B25h.
Some challenges could be fun like that, others could be a challenge for those who like to "push the limit". Like some of the challenges that have been listed already.

I see no reason for them not to be added. They will be beneficial overall, those whom don't want to do them. Don't have to, and can stick to the "norm"; those whom want a little change, could do the achievements.

As Tunnelrat already said, could be a perk reward for it. Personally, I would do it with or without perk reward, but I don't see why a reward couldn't be added.

Just my opinion.

Respectively,

Tinkles

You're right I can see how this would be  a worthy addition. You could even tailor them to encourage a more strategic game style say Ordgamsic(stolen from waystin) For destroying a set number of ord bunkers without a rearm.

If you need fluff like that to enjoy the game you might be able to find something to play with fluffy bunnies in it. Or, you could make or join a squad, most already have award programs which should fulfill your need for recognition. You can then paste a copy of your medals or ribbons in your signature block like some players already do. If you really want everyone to know, add the list of awards after your name British style. 80hd DFC. There you have been awarded the Distinguished Fluffiness Cross for the fluffiest wishlist post of 2012. Go get 'em tiger!

And here is a Brownie button for your sig line too, you earned it...
