Airplane mode disconnects me randomly

I forgot the phone has a camera. Never needed it though, so I guess I am not missing anything there either.

I am well versed in current technology.  I evaluate it all the time.  I am equally versed at using it, when it is efficient to do so.

I have yet to run into a situation where I said to myself, "I wish I had....".

For some, it makes sense.  I would never argue that.  What I see, on a daily basis, is people being a slave to the technology and allowing it to govern their lives.  Instead of being something to make life better, it has become another way for them to extend the amount of time they spend working.  They talk about how neat the technology and how it saves them time without realizing they are giving more time to work and not being paid for it.

People regularly give me the "Oh, he is just old, he does not get it.." and I just smile a little and move on.  They have no idea how much I do get it.

I'll bet if your wife started a new company and her Droid was the heart of it. Within the first day of any probelms with her smartphone you would be able to support, program apps and root hack her phone to make sure her business succeeds. Otherwise, except for the superior audio resolution from my wife's Droid versus my Samsung ElCheepo when I have to convice ATT tech support I am who I say I am. The people who most need to contact me know how. Or vice versa....

I still remember in the late 90's being chewed out by an executive because his PDA couldn't talk to the Exchange server like his laptop but, it could talk to his laptop. I remember thinking then the evil device of the future would be the unholy offspring of the PDA and Laptop. Then I convinced myself no one would be that destructive to the human race and forgot about it.

There is absolutly nothing magical about technology in our private lives. Mostly it becomes a way to runaway from ourselves and all the problems that are exaserbated by trying to substitute those idieot gadgets for common sense with the pursuit of the next sensory fix. We use them now mostly to avoid being alone with ourselves while de-evolving the ability for learning emotional physical micro cues from physical interaction. This is needed so we can understand each other in face to face social situations. A room full of teenagers all looking at the gaget in their hands to communicate with each other is a sad thing to watch. The new RSI injury is now the thumb. Carpal tunnel is so old school and lame now.

Remember when the quote "No Man is an island" was one of those classical quotes from John Donne thrown at us as a warning against isolating ourselves from society? Welcome to the brave new world of islands.
