Multi core processor usage
« on: December 13, 2012, 11:34:38 AM »
Before I get too deep, let me ask a basic question.

I have a quad core processor.  When playing the game, I have 1 core at about 80-90%, 1 core at about 30%, the other two hardly being used at all.  Overall usage us at about 30%.

Is this normal?

It could be.

The game will use two cores.  There is no benefit in trying to use more than two as all the rendering depends on a serial set of events in order to accomplish the task.

Windows may use more cores at the DirectX level, but we have no control over that.

Don't some AMD processors run on only one core per process even if they are multi-core?  Isn't that how the crashing "fix" was implemented?

Yes.  AMD provided a workaround for processors which exhibit the high speed clock issue.  It basically forces the game to run on one core.
