First Car
« on: December 15, 2012, 11:22:06 AM »
I got my first car yesterday :'). I needed it to drive to and from the college next semester because my schedule is a bit wanky and doesnt fit with the bus schedule. Anywho its a 2006 Honda Accord EX Coupe with 95K miles on her. Tomorrow I'lll put fresh tires on her and sometime in the next week get an oil change. Ive spent all morning cleaning her up right, doing the windows, the seats, and making car noises sitting in her. Next stop is Wal-Mart to pick up a hula girl and a shaggy steering wheel cover.  :D

To be honest, driving is harder than flying. This is mainly because you are surrounded by idiots... ive learned this lesson once already. Now I assume everyone else around me is clueless.

 good looking car. v6?

ditch the steering wheel cover. they always end up slipping. they're actually not very safe. spend the money on some form of anti-theft. hondas are highly stolen. just last week, a customers 91 civic got stolen. 2 days previous, my tow company's drivers 94 civic was stolen. last year a friends 94 civic was stolen.

be sure to use the right oil 5w20.

Most people don't understand the mass/speed thing when they drive. Gotta dodge lunatics all day in my 46ton truck. 46 tons at 60 mph translates to what?

Keep it well maintained and it should easily make 300,000. My toyota p/u is at 193,000 and the CRV is at 175,000. Run like new.

dude.....i've been telling people that for years. when my grand pop taught me to drive, he made dam well sure i knew i was driving a 4 wheeled 3500# guided missile. he didn't know techinals of it, but he got the point across.
i think now that with cars moving so effortlessly, that younger people think they're paperweights, and don't understand what happens just to make that car follow a 40 degree bend in the road. or that they need much more distance to stop.

was just having a conversation the other night with a customers son. he just got an 02 camaro, so me being almost  :old: went into telling him how much they suck in bad weather and how it wouldn't come close to his cavalier in the snow. he then proceeded to tell me how in the one snow we had last year that he was easily able to drive in the snow nearly 15mph faster than most others. i reminded him about the need to stop from that much faster. i saw the light come on. his dad thanked me for that too.

Yeah the steering wheel cover is a joke but the hula girl is already in place.  :D Yupp read through the owners manual today and bought a couple quarts of 5w20 for the trunk today. What kind of anti theft? The car is immobilized if the key is not chipped.

Lets see.. got the car friday... its saturday.. parents were out of town last night... not smart considering they left me the keys  ;)

Thanks everyone, I really am very lucky. Its a great car especially as my first.

no issues with hula girl on the dash. :)

a stupidly simple one.....the club. just something to make a thief want to go to the next car 'cause it's easier........

ah understood.

I missed your original question though. Its not a V6. Its the 2.4 L I4 vtec engine. I wouldn't have minded a v6 but my commute to school is 20 miles and if traffic does the speed limit its a 20 minute trip. So with the 4 cylinder I get better mileage. My only complaint is that its a automatic. Easier, but its much easier to become distracted I find. A standard keeps me a bit better focused. Oh look a butterfly...
