Pocket Knife on College Campus

I am going to start carrying a pocket knife to school with me if it turns out to be legal in florida. ( I got it for Christmas) The blade is less than 4 inches and it is not mechanically driven. What concerns me is: 1. It looks kind of "tactical" black aluminum handle and black stainless steel blade. 2. It has a glass breaker on the end that may scare some. ( Im not gonna be flashing it around or anything, just clipped inside my jean pocket)

Anyone have experience with this stuff?

I carry a knife every day and nobody has said anything.  College campuses aren't nearly as uptight as high school campuses about this kind of thing.  Firearms, well that's another story.

the college I went to considered a pocket knife a "weapon", and any and all weapons were forbidden on the campus, including your personal vehicle.  I didn't agree with it, but what are you going to do? lol  May want to check campus regulations.  But I carried one all through school as I NEVER showed or told ANYONE

I checked their website and found nothing mentioning it.

I have seen other people with them, but if I do it...

May want to give the campus police a call and see what they say about knives. No need to get kicked out for a missed rule.

I remember the good old days where most boys in grade school had pocket knives on them.  Wasn't a problem back 25-30 years ago.  Now your expelled

Carried a folding buck knife on my belt for years. Never had a problem.

I carried one so long that now to this day if I use one. I instinctively try to stuff it into my cell phone pouch after using one.

At Virginia tech at least in the Corps of Cadets a ton of people carry pockets knives around.  Virginia tech of all places.

Three things i always have on my person: wallet, cell phone, and a Case folding knife. I'd recommend one you could keep in your pocket and not on your belt where it is more easily visible. Its probably one of those things that would cause a problem for you only if you were caught with it in the open, but is not actively searched for like a gun or drugs.

My Dad remembers being able to keep their deer rifles and bird shotguns in their trucks as early as Highschool! It was common for the local boys to hunt right before or after classes and no one thought anything of it. When I was in a HS, an older guy got expelled for having a piece of a gun in his truck. Not the entire gun, but only a piece that was obviously of no harm.

I carry one everyday. Of course I also carry two to three firearms with me as well 


(should be noted I go to school for "Gunsmithing", so I am permitted to do so  )

i carry a pocket knife with me all the time. it's clipped inside my right front pocket. it lives there, regardless of where i go, or what i'm doing....except for getting on an airplane......and i don't take the airlines to go anywhere anymore.

Never carried a knife alone,  But I carry a Leatherman with a locking blade on it.   Never really think about it.

The point here isn't "what you do". You can carry a sherman tank in your pocket for all I care. It also doesn't matter what you did when "you were in school", especially if you were in school over 30 years ago like me.

The point here is to check the rules and regulations at the school you are looking to go about "armed" at. Face it, MOST schools these days are going to consider that a weapon and will have rules about them. Asking on a BBS isn't going to get you an answer, only opinions, unless one of the board members from your school are present here.

It seems to me that the OP is thinking it might NOT be ok to carry this knife at school and is looking some sort of validation to do so. Even if a couple hundred of us thinks it is ok to carry it, it won't stop them from kicking you out of school if it IS against their rules.

But hey, it's your choice.
