Heavy Cruiser Landing and in Game Public Squad Roster
« on: December 26, 2012, 07:55:27 AM »
Well first a thing I would love to see is being able to land successfully on the back end of the heavy cruiser. I've landed on it time and again without so much as breaking my prop. Yet when ever I press end sortie it says ditch. I think adding this would provide a slight backup for landing to when ever a carrier sinks. Especially in those remote places to where there is no nearby place to land.

The second thing I would be most interested in added. Is a in game view public squad roster that provides the name of all members in that squad online or offline. Along with whether said squad is recruiting or not and the requirements to be recruited into the squad for those looking. Also having this roster being able to show the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and other such ranks within the squad. Having the squad roster show which side they mostly or permanently operate on. Lastly probably my favorite part would be the squad roster showing which channel they operate on. I find this part very useful because for those who make a new squad they never know which channels already have a squad working on them.

All this would be filled in by the Command Officer of the squad and would be able to choose to fill it in or not.

That's my wishlist for now and I hope to see it considered, anyway what do you think of it?

If your cv got sunk, your going to have to ditch,,, end of story.
Can you imagine the cruiser skipper ,in a war zone allowing a plane to land on the fantail?  My guess is ,he would shoot you down himself for even thinking about trashing his deck with your plane and taking a chance of killing crew or destroying equipment.  Besides, your chances of survive would be much greater gliding into the ocean than crashing into the rear 8 inch guns !

Indeed, what you think of the public squad roster?

Your point is blunted by the fact that he, as he stated, has already "successfully landed".  Not ditched.

By your logic, my C-47 landing on the carrier should be a ditch as well.

no   You landed on a cv deck,,  many planes are capable of such,,,, show me any aircraft that ever successfully landed on the back of a cruiser in real life.

some of the very first biplanes where launched off of the back of a cruiser and landed successfully in the process

I totally get what you are saying, but the point is if you can do it... and it's friendly territory (such as a Vbase pad) why should it depend upon whether or not its a valid place for a plane to land?  (Using the vbase landing "successful" as the example for comparison).

they had floats under them!   Hence,, they landed in the water then were hoisted back aboard!   Big difference!    Now if we had cruisers with such planes,  that would be cool!

try landing on a vbase on the dirt or near concrete, that wouldnt be a successful landing either.  think of the cruiser as the same thing, if you dont land on runway or concrete then you ditch.

the comparison between vbase and cruiser is not even close.

That is a Sopwith 1-1/2 Strutter (not a Camel) and it was a launch test not a recovery test.

theres your photo of a Sopwith camel WITHOUT floats taking off of a cruiser
taking off isn't landing!

But I'll play a bit more,, if I land at a field ,, near the runway, why should I get a ditch? Maybe I landed on the runway but taxied over by the hanger,, felt like parking in the grass today tho,, didn't I land?,,,  we play by rules,, must be on concrete or the deck of a carrier,, not near the cv,, not on the fantail of a cruiser,, not in the grass next to the runway,, defend the cv,  then You can land on it,, because it is still there,, other wise make sure you have fuel to go to the nearest friendly field,, we are roughly based on reality here,, no one is perfect, but a fighter does not belong on the deck of a cruiser, if I can't land in the grass next to concrete, why should I be allowed to land on a cruiser?

Why would you want to add something to the game which does nothing to add to the performance of the aircraft you are flying? Just something else to show down lag, packet loss and or frame rates!! Bad idea!!
Blue Skies and wind at my back and wish that for all!!!
