AH on wireless n600?
« on: December 31, 2012, 12:03:38 PM »
Tried some searching but can't seem to locate an answer. How does the MA play on a wireless network? The most I would share it with would be a kindle. The n600 would be on xfinity. The bestbuy tech sais this should play seamlessly, but I wanted to ask ahead of time, and ask if there is an option to run it hardwired along with wireless? No experience with wireless period.

Thanks.

Bob

I've flown my entire AH career through a blackberry using EDGE networking.

It seems the program has a very good smoothing algorithm for slow connections.

I've also noticed that consistency of connection latency is just as important as the ping itself.

I'm connected through a n300 and it is usually rock solid.

Our resident guru Skuzzy would chime in with 'anything wireless is going to have more errors than a wired connection would' and it's just the nature of the beast and not much you can do to completely remove that characteristic.

WiFi should be fine for playing AH. I really doubt you'll notice any issues at all. If you live in a densely populated area, (especially an apartment building) you may want to change your default channel that your access point runs on. If that is the case, the best thing to do is use a utility like this one: http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/. It will tell you what channels the other access points around you are using. Try to pick a channel no one is using, and make the channel as far apart from the other channels in use as possible. The most common channels in use are 1, 6, and 11. I usually try to use 9 if no one else is on it.

Having said that, nothing beats good ol ethernet for gaming.  :old:

Nope but were it IS run is better than having none run at all, like right up to my house so I'll take the 60 feet of coax!  :neener: (BTW it speed tests at higher than 50/25)

I use the n600.....70% of the time my ping goes from 80-150.....10% of the time it is 500-1000(almost unplayable due to warping)  the rest of the time it will just give me "cannot connect to game server"
